We are a young 4-piece indie-rock band from Wiltshire, England, formed in January 2019.

We came together in January 2019, Three of us (Ben, Nath, and Cam) from another band and our Drummer Brad to infuse our passion for both classic and indie rock with indie disco vibes to uplift people’s spirits and get that dance floor shaking!

With a number of original songs and a few stylized covers, we are ready to set those summer live stages alight with an energetic set and make a name for the southwest music scene!

Tell us the genre of your music.

We try not to limit ourselves to one specific genre but you could probably say we are predominantly Indie Rock but there are some classic rock and pop influences that find their way into our songs.

Whilst we all have the same vision for our music, our influences do vary. For instance, if you were to take a snapshot of our influences, we’d probably say The Smiths, The Darkness, Fleetwood Mac and Imagine Dragons.

Tell us the story behind your song.

‘Light The Spark’ was the first song written as a band, so it began the movement towards finding ‘our sound.’

At the time of writing ‘Light The Spark,’ I (Ben) had faced some challenging times – this song, along with others in our catalog resonate with feelings from that time and a relationship break up.

The song begins with the somewhat optimistic view of when one thing ends it allows for other opportunities to arise “some things end, just for others to start, some begin with just the lighting of a spark”, or should we say ‘light the spark’ for new beginnings.

As the song progresses it touches on feelings and pangs from the relationship, be it good or bad, there is a change of feeling, no longer having that person always there “every time I go outside you’re there, every time I wake up you’re there.”

The second verse closes up on feelings of doubt “emotions fade, but never succumb to the dark, they still appear when the switch triggers the heart” – suggesting that there is still a link to this person which you can never run away from, whilst also implying the excitement of sparking new love with new people “the smallest touch can pump the blood right through your heart.”

It is a song we truly love and have been excited to release. We look forward to continuing our story as a band and reaching the hearts of our listeners.

Tell us the problems you are facing as a band.

Drawing people into the UK South West music scene – There’s a whole host of talent down our way but it tends to get overlooked in favour of bands from big music cities like Manchester, London, Sheffield, etc. But we don’t let it get to us if anything it makes us work harder to get noticed.

Discuss the recording and production of the song.

Our drummer Brad is currently doing a music production degree and took it upon himself to volunteer to produce our first single.

We recorded ‘Light The Spark’ in 1 day at Bournemouth University and our ultimate aim was to make sure the track sounded like 4 guys playing together in a room rather than being drenched in effects. And I think that shows. It’s got a great live sound to it and each instrument has a dynamic range which seems to be lacking in a lot of tracks these days.

We aim to self-produce a lot more singles over this summer and see where that leads us.

Our production style seems to have gone down really well with our audience so far.

List the names of blogs, radio or television stations that have supported you so far.

So far, mainly local blogs from where we’re based in Wiltshire, UK, like Devizine, have supported us but we’re also starting to get attention from blogs from further afield like oddnugget.com. As we promote our band and our music we hope we’ll get other blogs and writers offering some coverage as well.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music career, experience, and future goals.

Between previous bands we’ve been in, we’ve had attention and coverage from radio stations like Planet Rock and a lot of local radio stations.

We had success at playing to great crowds in the South West and South of England so we’re looking to capitalize on that experience and make sure Daydream Runaways become a household name not only here but further afield! Of course, the more places we play and experience, the more that will influence and inspire us to be creative with our music.

.

.

.

Brief us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

To be honest, life in its self – experiences, and challenges form the meanings behind our songs, be that happy, sad or optimistic.

We enjoy what we do and are all creatively minded, which makes the whole process something we’re all passionate about.

We take influences from bands we love and aspire to be like them, whilst retaining our individuality!

.

.

.

Brief us the top-secret behind making a hit song.

Love, passion and real experiences! If you can condense that into a song that has a great hook or strikes a chord with your audience, you’re onto a winner!

.

.

.

Tell the piece of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

If you don’t love what you’re producing, don’t do it. It’s important to write for yourself in the first instance as I think your passion is always transparent in what you do.

If you do not love it, your potential audience won’t. Don’t be afraid to take risks with your creativity.

If what you’re doing is genuine to you, it’s going to come across like that and be appreciated by others.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

Often Cam will have a guitar melody or a great chord progression, or Ben will bring a half-written song, we will then jam the song and piece together ideas, we will often have a song in the mix for a few weeks and it ends up with totally new ideas down the line. Ben will often listen to the other guys play and quietly note down ideas once he has connected to the feeling of the song.

.

.

.

Discuss music promotion and how you are boosting your fan base.

Making sure we have an active online social media presence and playing shows a bit further afield than our home towns with the hope that our promotion, word of mouth and of course, our songs get the attention we want.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

We took a while to find our band name because we wanted something memorable, looked great written in lights and evoked a positive feeling in people.

We’re all guilty of running off in a daydream from the mundane, boring parts of our day to day lives and we hope our music reminds people of the places they run to.

Debut Single – Light The Spark:

Light The Spark was written around the time of a relationship break-up but also at the time where our band was beginning to find the sound we’d been aiming to produce – Angular guitars, off-beat bass melodies, uplifting vocals, and energetic drums patterns, the song was written with the indie dance-floor in mind.

It’s for those who may have had a long time love or routine come to an end but an opportunity presents itself in the most unexpected of ways.

There’s a sense of heartbreak and angst to the song but underlying it all is hope and opportunity.
