Lara Snow painted a picture of the life she wanted to live. A soft, melancholic sight, built out of gentle and yet vibrant colors – A creation that forms a connection between a glamorous and forgotten time and prosaic feelings that exist in all of us.

In 2016 Lara Snow presented herself to the world with her debut single ‘Sometimes It’s Enough’, the single gained positive reviews from various European blogs.

Following a successful headline tour in Germany, Lara relocated to Berlin to focus on songwriting and production of new music.

Lara spent her first Berlin winter self-reflecting and translating her deepest emotions into words and melodies while trying to decipher what echo she would like to send out into the world.

It was a new era for her, the first time she lived overseas – and while Berlin was overflowing with new arts, cultures, and opportunities, Snow felt lonesome and found herself in search for a home. Eventually, she found that home in her writing.

During this Berlin winter, Lara Snow wrote a handful of pop songs, unburdened by the constraints of time and place, while holding to the standard of the most exciting contemporary productions in Electro-pop music.

Snow references her musical influences such as Grimes, Banks, The Dø, The Knife & Lykke Li.

“My heart was broken for a very long time,” Snow says. “At a young age I got into a toxic relationship and it changed who I was in a way. I became a sad girl and I was trying to float in a world that was dark. I carry these feelings with me to this day.

I think this is also the reason why water metaphors come often in my songs, for a long time I was trying to reach out for air and felt like I was choking, fighting to keep my head above the water.

But at one point, I decided that I’m only going to keep in my life people who make me a better person.” She adds, “If we’ll choose to divide our lives into chapters, my first was a learning chapter. I feel that in recent years I managed to start writing a new chapter, make the transformation from childhood to womanhood and grow stronger.”

‘Swim Far’ is the first single out of Lara Snow’s debut EP ‘Delete Forever’ that is planned for release later this year. The song was produced in London by Miedo Total.

‘Swim Far’ talks about the need to move forward and keep marching when it feels like the water floods the room – to be bigger than the sum of your fears and to devote yourself to creation even if, at times, it might be painful.

“In a place with no one or nothing to lean on, I often felt like I was drowning, but the survival instinct was stronger. I knew I had to learn to adapt to new situations faster than I did before.”

Like the warm and caressing melodies that Lara presents in her songwriting, she also emphasizes this feeling in her new music video for ‘Swim Far’, using wide spaces and her unique aesthetic.

The video was made in a DIY approach, together with her partner Jonatan Harpak, and was shot in Geneva and Tel Aviv, using an iPhone – a fact that is very hard to spot while watching it.

“We wanted to create a video that will convey the emotions of the song” She shares, “Not to tell a story, but to pass on a feeling: how does it feel to be surrounded by people but still alone.”

Discuss the story behind your music video.

We wanted to create a visual equivalent to the song. We weren’t trying to tell a story, but to pass a feeling.

I wrote ‘Swim Far’ shortly after I moved to Berlin to focus on songwriting and production of new music.

It was summer and there was this magical vibe everywhere. We had some gigs and that made me very happy, but then came winter. Coming from a warm climate country, this weather made me blue and I kinda stayed at home for a while, not really interacting with the outside world and just writing. I was feeling pretty lonesome at the time, though I was never actually alone. So we wanted to pass this same feeling with the visuals.

Also, flowers were always my best friends, so it was important to me to have flowers in the video, at some point I figured – why not making them my little backup singers.

State the name of the locations in your music video.

It was shot both in Geneva and Tel Aviv.

List the members of the crew that produced this video and use this opportunity to thank them.

The video was made by Jonatan Harpak (Photography, Editing, Visual Effects, Colour Grading), we both directed it. It was made in a totally DIY approach; it was actually shot with an iPhone.

Explain your emotional state while shooting the music video.

It was very cold when we shot in Geneva (I think it was – 6) so it was hard to film outside. We were planning on shooting for one day but we ended up coming back there the next day because 2 out of the 3 iPhones we had with us stopped working, because of the cold. I guess that was a bit stressful and we’re frightened that we won’t have enough material, but in the end, it was exactly what we needed.

Share your press release and reviews with us.

We had a lot of interest from media for this single so that’s very exciting. It is going to be premiered on KALTBLUT magazine which I love reading, so that’s pretty cool.

Discuss your music career so far.

So far this journey took me to so many different places. We played shows and festivals in Germany, Poland, Latvia, France, Switzerland, New York, and Toronto. I’ve met so many great people. I’ve been truly blessed to get a lot of support from people around me and from my beautiful followers. Can’t wait to see what will come next.

.

.

.

Tell us if you aspire to go into acting.

I did when I was younger, since I was a child I loved being on stage, singing, acting, dancing. I did do some theater but eventually, I’ve decided to focus on my music.

.

.

.

Tell us your gains and losses in the music business.

I gained so many experiences; I saw a lot of places that I would probably never see without it. I think I lost some people along the way, a musical career can be very consuming and it always gets the best of me.

.

.

.

Tell us how you manage your time.

I wake up early and go to sleep pretty late, I work mostly all the time, I rarely take time off.

.

.

.

Tell us how you are able to actualize success in your music career.

For me, success is being able to do what I love and sharing it with the world. Luckily I am able to do so.

.

.

.

Tell us if you an independent artist or you are a signed artist and tell us how you run your music career.

I’m currently independent, though I was signed to an Indie label for some time. I run my career as a business; I wake up every day and work to grow my business.

List the individuals responsible for writing, production, recording, directing, choreography, promotion, and marketing of this project.

‘Swim Far’ was written by me, I usually write my songs alone on a piano, then Jonatan and I, we make a demo. We worked on the production with Miedo Total, a London based producer. It was mixed by Ori Rousso and Noam Levinberg and mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios.

.

.

.

Tell us the instruments put together for the song.

This one was actually made all in-box, so no live instruments here.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience recording in the studio and shooting the music video.

We started producing the song in London, at the home studio of Miedo Total. We actually came to London to try and work with him and this was the first song we produced together.

We had two sessions and then the core of the production was basically done – it went very smoothly.

We finished it in our home studio in Berlin and it was mixed in Tel Aviv, so basically it took a trip around the world even before it was released.

I recorded vocals for this song in Berlin as well and then some backing vocals in Tel Aviv.

I love recording at my home studio much more than in actual recording booths. I feel much more relaxed.

.

.

.

Tell us the piece of advice you will give to a new artist planning to shoot a music video.

I would probably suggest to try and do it yourself, don’t waste too much money on music videos at the beginning.

.

.

.

Tell us the reason you shot a video for this song.

I think I’m going to shoot videos for most of them. In my world, every melody should have a visual to go along with it.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

My artist name is Lara Snow. It’s not my birth name but Lara was always a nickname. I chose to add ‘Snow’ to it because a few years back I had a dream that I have snowflakes instead of eyes. I woke up – and the name was there.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

‘Swim Far’ – to keep going even when it feels like the water floods the room. To be bigger than the sum of your fears and to reach the places you want to reach by never giving up.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.

The name of my debut EP is ‘Delete Forever.’ While working on the songs and producing them I had many different versions over time and I would upload them to SoundCloud to share with other people I work with. When the EP was finally done I was going to erase all these versions but then SoundCloud asked me: ‘Delete Forever’?

And I froze for a second there, because I was scared of deleting it and that I’ll regret it later. That made me think of our lives in this generation, how hard we hold onto things – pictures, emails, even people. I thought – what could be so bad about deleting something forever? It makes space for something new.
