Discuss your music process and recording in full details.

The process changes depending on the day and my mood. Sometimes I’ll have lyrics in mind and start there, other times I improvise with live instruments and piece it together. Or, I write to a beat and adlib vocals over it until I have the perfect lyrics.

.

.

.

Discuss how you get involved in music.

A producer saw me perform in my school show and he invited me to have a studio session. That’s where it all started.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the secret to success.

That would be telling. 😉 I don’t think anyone has a formula

.

.

.

Discuss how you distribute your music.

I use an aggregator called Ditto but might change to another in the near future.

.

.

.

Describe your vocal ability.

Average but I make up for it…

.

.

.

Tell us how you develop the instrumentation for this song.

These normally come from what has inspired me that day.

.

.

.

Go into detail on how you create your song.

We created ‘Joy’ on the 7th of Feb 2019. I told the producer (J.AR.J) the type of song/vibe I wanted to create that day and we just vibed it out until we had a rough cut within a couple of hours.

.

.

.

Discuss your musical ability.

Limitless. I encourage everyone to have a growth mindset.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the lyrics of the song.

‘Joy’ is about being a push-over and prioritizing other people’s happiness over your own and feeling trapped in situations that compromise your time and energy.

.

.

.

Discuss the structure of the song.

A dope intro that leads you to strong lyrics, an awesome hook, and a big build for a dramatic finish.

.

.

.

Discuss your performance

Dramatic – I try to express the emotion of my lyrics rather than focusing on making it sound pretty and perfect.

.

.

.

Tell us how you prepare for a show or recording session.

I don’t prepare for recording sessions; I’m just excited to create.

.

.

.

Tell us how you coordinate other musicians or how you relate with your producer in bringing the best out of your song.

I’ve been working with J.AR.J for some time now. We get each other well after so long. I feel like as a creative mind some people don’t understand my randomness. He gets it though, so we’ve created work we’re both proud of.

.

.

.

Tell us how you entice the listeners with your music.

I couldn’t say how exactly. I just make music I enjoy with meaningful lyrics and that seems to be working.

.

.

.

Discuss how you promote your music.

I have a team that helps with promotion. I’m pretty useless on those types of things so stick to the creative side.

.

.

.

Tell us how you ensure your vocal is in harmony with the instrumentation.

I don’t think about it. I just do it. I’ve written a lot of songs and probably if I listened back to the majority I wrote when I was younger the vocals wouldn’t…the more you practice the easier things become.

.

.

.

Tell us how you build your vocal melody.

Normally I just freestyle on my voice notes and piece together the bits I like.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

It’s a beat-driven Electro Pop Afro House sound for summer…

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the album.

‘Thailah’ is my real name (thanks mum). I decided not to release an album just yet. The plan is to release singles every month for 2019.

London, UK, June 19th, 2019

Thailah (pronounced Ty-la) emerged from musical obscurity and finds herself lightly lit from the streaming success of last month’s single “Sweet.”

Thanks to an assist from Spotify’s New Music Friday, the Londoner has elbowed past established artists into both; the hearts, and playlists of thousands.

Like Summertime in London, she’s only just getting started and has quickly delivered “Joy” to accompany “Sweet”, on this Summers soundtrack.

The songstress collaborates once again with revered producer J.AR.J, combining Electro-Pop and Afro-House tinged sounds – championed by Thailah’s catchy lyricism, for another “rambunctious bounce-fest” to add to Thailah’s blossoming musical attaché.

“Joy” is Thailah’s tertiary periodic release of a busy 2019 and she’ll be showcasing further upcoming singles, alongside her live performance prowess, at Islington’s o2 Academy 2 on July 26th offering a glimpse into a few of her symphonious surprises.

The single is all about sacrificing your own happiness, in order to lift other people’s emotions. Being around those people is never the first choice – but it’s clear they need you there.

Inspiration for Thailah came from her overly empathetic doormat to people that often take advantage of her kindness. Then realizing she’s let them control too much of her time when she should be doing something for her own wellbeing.
