Tell us about yourself.
My name is Andréas, I’m a singer-songwriter currently based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Tell us about yourself as an artist.
I’m mostly a vocalist, and if I’m not mistaken I’d say that I’m a mid-tenor. I also dabble with the acoustic guitar. And I’ve been taking singing seriously since the age of 18.
Tell us about the genre of your music.
The tracks on my debut EP: “Pariah” are R&B/Hip Hop, Contemporary Pop, Afro Pop, and R&B/Pop.
Tell us about the story behind your song.
On this record, I am talking about the sacrifices a person takes while transitioning from young to a full-on adult. Most of the time; the sacrifice is always dreams and aspirations, by settling down to a 9 to 5 because the bills have to be paid.
Also, sometimes (not that this is wrong but) children happen and they become the center of your world…and before you know it, you’re 45+.
Tell us about the problems you are facing as a musician.
I’m just getting started with my music career as an independent artist, and I have yet to encounter any major problem that can potentially hinder me personally and professionally. So far so good; I’ve got no problem nor complaints.
Tell us about the recording and production of the song.
I wrote this song back in 2015 but didn’t finish writing it until 2016. And finally recorded it in July of 2017 with Cosher (a South African DJ Producer & Songwriter) at his studio Cosher Recording Studios.
List the names of blogs, radio, or TV stations that have supported you so far.
Radios: I actually just got playlisted to three local South African radio stations. Like this just happened not even 5 days ago.
The biggest one out of the three. They’re currently playing “Mr. Fiddler” during the after hours, to see the feedback before they switch me to daytime, and eventually primetime.
Tell us more about your music career, experience, and future goals.
I am currently at the very beginning stages. Currently laying a foundation, establishing relationships, creating partnerships, establishing an online presence, the whole deal. I’m doing it all now, by myself.
Brief us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.
Just life in general. The ups, downs, daily struggle, epiphanies. Just life.
Brief us the top-secret behind making a hit song.
Tell us the piece of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.
Hang in there fam! You’ll receive a lot of “No’s” before that one Yes that will eventually change your life and put you on the map. So don’t be discouraged. Every popular artist went through the exact same thing; probably even worse than
you, so perseverance, humility, and patience should be your best friends. Last but not least; make sure you have, and cherish a normal job to support your art. Be realistic. And if it never happens; oh well, don’t beat yourself over it; cause at least you went for it. It’s all about the fam (success or not), and that’s all that should matter.
Discuss at length your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition, or awards you might have obtained.
I’m brand new; the release of my debut EP will pretty much mark my birth in the music industry. So, let’s all stay tuned.
Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.
I don’t wake up in the morning with intention of writing a song. If it happens, it happens. I typically write out of wit. What typically happens is, ideas come to me out of nowhere…kind of like how Raven gets her visions on that’s so Raven haha…literally no kidding. When that happens, I immediately pull out my phone, record a voice note of it, and save it. The composition part typically happens on days I have plenty of free time and bored. I’ll whip out my guitar, jam with random chords for a while, before deciding to go through some song ideas that I have saved as voice notes. When one stands out to me the most; at that particular time, I finish it off with a melody and lyrics; and I’ll probably end up recording it in the studio whenever I can afford it.
Name the artists you are willing to collaborate with.
I’m a simple guy. I don’t have a list. Just a name. Mark Ronson.
State the links to your social networks and stores for the purchase of your songs
Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.
I don’t have sad days; I don’t believe in that. Shitty days, absolutely but not sad days. And I’m the happiest every time I’m given a platform to showcase my gift.
Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.
I would turn a million into an asset by investing in real estate.
Tell us about your song.
When I wrote this song, I was reflecting on myself; like “do I really want to pursue this music career full time, and put marriage, children, friendships, family, and so on, on hold for a little bit?” I’ll leave it up to you to guess what my answer was.
Tell us how you manage other activities with your music career.
I’m a one-man show right now. I’m doing it all on my own.
State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.
My stage name ‘Andréas’ is my birth name. And that’s about it really…nothing special there haha.
State the title of the song and the meaning.
My first single from the “Pariah” EP is “Mr. Fiddler”. It’s a story of a person who gives up on his dreams, by settling down to a 9 to 5; and everything else but his dreams. In his typical daily life, he puts up a front of contentment and lives a ‘miserably ever after’ life with a secret that only HE knows, and will take to his grave. That ever since he settled he’s never been happy ever again.
State the title of the album and the reason for picking the title.
My debut EP’s name’s “Pariah”, and I named it that because it perfectly fits the theme of every song on the project.
