April Showers – I Try
ARTIST NAME: April Showers
SONG TITLE: I Try
Discuss how you develop your melody.
I really just feel the beat out… whatever vibe I get and whatever melody I hear, it usually just comes to me.
Tell us your source of inspiration.
My struggle – I’ve had such a hard life, all I can think about is making it and doing everything I can to create a better life for my son.
Tell us the most memorable experience in your music career.
It’s hard to answer that because I’m still so fresh but it would just have to be all the love and positive feedback that I’m getting. Meeting my team and learning from the best and also, getting to work with such amazing producers.
Discuss how you build your song.
I always try to do the hook first based on the vibe I get off the beat. Even with collaboration, we try to do the hook first and then attack the verses.
Tell us how you ensure your music inspires others.
The way that I inspire others is to speak from past experiences and the heart.
I am a normal everyday person that is working a regular job going through regular experiences so I speak on the things that I go through because I know that others are going through the same thing.
So many artists today rap about materialistic things which is fine for them but for me, I don’t have those things so I have to speak on what pertains to me and my life.
I put messages in my music as well so if you really listen you will see that I have a lot to say.
Discuss the relevance of promotion to the music business.
Promotion is extremely important because you can make good music all day but if you are not promoting yourself then you’re selling yourself short.
Tell us what you will do apart from music.
I work in retail and I’m a single mother. I don’t only write music. I’m writing a few books and a screenplay for my brother.
List the names of the instruments you can play.
Clarinet and trumpet.
Tell us if you have any music background.
No professional music background but I was in a band all my life.
Tell us the piece of advice you will give to a new artist on entering the music chart.
I would say my biggest advice is to network with like people. And by like people, I mean people who are on the come-up like you.
You would be surprised by how many producers/engineers and videographers are willing to work with you because they are trying to get heard just like you are.
Find people who believe in you and stay positive. Also, utilize social media; it is amazing when it comes to networking and promotion.
Elaborate on melody and rhythm.
Melody is the part of the song that you will get stuck in your head and sing over and over again. Rhythm is a part of the song that makes you move.
State your future goals.
I would like to become an accomplished recording artist/ songwriter. I will also like to get my books published and maybe even create a few movies as well.
Share your recording experience with us.
I am always very nervous initially but once I get comfortable, I try to have a strong delivery. We also like to make the studio environment a fun one too.
Tell us the most difficult part of the recording.
Just having the right vibe and making sure you are translating what you want to say how you want to say it.
Discuss the greatest mistake you have ever made in your music career.
I’m still early on in my career but I would say not staying focused. It’s hard when you are trying to live everyday life and also pursue your dream.
Tell us how you build up your composition.
Once I start writing, it usually starts flowing. I just stay focused until I am done.
Discuss the relevance of music.
Music is everywhere. It’s also evolving and changing constantly.
Elaborate on your song entitled ‘Hungry.’
The song is about just being hungry for success. The message is I’m going to keep going until I get to where I want to be.
Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the album.
April Showers is a name I went by for fun given to me by a co-worker. ‘High I’m April’ is my first album and it’s basically just an introduction of who I am.
