Tell us your favorite instruments.
My favorite instrument would have to be vocals! In Baby Boy Blue I am only singing currently on these tracks so it’s my only instrument. I’m hoping to write some new tracks with more prominent guitar parts soon.

List the names of those supporting you.
I am so lucky to have such an awesome group of people supporting me. Family and friends are of course on the top of the list. Robbie Townsend my producer. Gerardo Ramos, who produced and directed my first music video. As well as Emily Ritchie, Daniel Luu, Sydney Young & Dante Sutton.

Tell us your preferred musical styles.
As an artist, I love to listen to any genre of music. I believe you can pull ideas and inspirations from any style of music. But I love any music that is considered alternative pop. Preferably mixed with hip-hop and rap/trap.

List the name of five artists that have influenced you musically.
Artists that have influenced my music include; Melanie Martinez, The Weeknd, Khalid, Billie Eilish, The Neighbourhood, and many, many more.

Tell us your favorite food and hobby.
My favorite food would have to be Caesar salads, and my favorite hobby is singing.

Tell us your musical experience pertaining to the recording of this song.
“I.L.Y.” was such a weird experience. I co-wrote the track with my producer Robbie Townsend in the summer of 2017 and it started as an acoustic track. After some time away from it at the end of the summer, we went back to it and reworked it as a fully produced track.

Explain what you know about vocal training.
I have been to two different vocal coaches and I’ve been singing publicly for about 7 years now. I know that every vocal coach teaches a little bit differently. But they’re all trying to get to the same goal of making your voice sound the best. I feel like it’s great to take time with a few different vocal coaches and take what they say with a grain of salt. And once you have a grasp on what they’re teaching you I think it’s important to take some time alone and see what works best for you, your genre, and your voice most importantly to craft your instrument.
Discuss the use of live instruments for recording in the studio.
The only live instrument I used in the recording studio was my voice. I feel like pop music has moved away from live instruments and moved towards the EDM world. Samples of live instruments have become so clean and professional sounding that you can get the sound without spending a lot of money on session players.
Brief us about your songwriting process.
My songwriting process has been very weird. It mostly starts with a random voice memo of a vocal melody that comes to mind and then a theme or a lyric idea. Then it flourishes in the studio and one piece at a time becomes a full song! Finished with a whole bunch of polishing.
Tell us your other talents apart from singing.
I don’t really think I have other talents apart from singing. I like talking with people so maybe I could be a car salesman?

Tell us your future plans in terms of your music career.
I am going to release three more tracks throughout 2018 starting with my next single “Summertime” in May 2018. Hopefully doing some touring in the summer but mostly playing shows in Edmonton, Alberta to grow my local fan base!
Tell us the worst experience in your music career.
I think my worst experience has been working alone. It’s the biggest rollercoaster of emotions when you’re working in the music industry and to be alone you don’t have a lot of people to talk to; who truly understand what you’re going through. But! When everything is going well it is truly the best feeling in the world.
Discuss in detail all we need to know about your song and album.
“I.L.Y.” is the name of the new single. I wrote the initial idea a few years back. I believe that after your first love you’re never truly over them. This song is that inside voice screaming out to tell them you still love them but you know you shouldn’t. At the same time, it’s an internal battle saying (I loved you) and it’s over now. But you still want to check up on them.
Tell us what fans are saying about your music.
I’m hoping the fans enjoy this new ballad. I always hope to create a spark of emotion in a listener so they can maybe see their own experiences in the song.
Tell us the concept behind your music project.
Baby Boy Blue is unlike any other. I wanted to create a project where the whole world can consume you. Image, lyrics, the message in each song, and production all work together to create a melancholy world. Your favorite sad boy.
Discuss multi-genre and switching from one genre to another.
I have been doing this since I was 15. When I started I was into folk music. Mostly due to the fact of where I live. It is huge here. I then moved onto working with a few other artists and created a band called The Mankind. Which had more of a rock-driven sound mixed with a bit of pop. We then moved to a three-piece and dove more into the pop world under the name The MNKD. I am now fully into the produced world of pop mixed with dark sounds and trap drums. I think switching from genre to genre is something that happens as you grow as an artist and as a person.

Explain in detail the title of the song.
“I.L.Y.” Stands for I Loved You.

State the reason you are into music.
I think I have the same reason as many other artists. The ability to express something, that can’t be represented in any other way.

Edmonton’s Baby Boy Blue (B.B.B.) is a persona created by Steven Sware as a means to express himself through music. He creates dark-pop that is heavily influenced by trap music from notable artists such as The Weeknd and Travis Scott. B.B.B. takes you on a trip in a world dipped in dreamy melancholy and suggestive self-awareness by pulling production and visual influences from the likes of Lana Del Rey and Melanie Martinez.
“I’m able to be a different character on stage and get into the music without having to be self-conscious,” says B.B.B. “The name, branding, stage makeup, production is all an escape from my current world into something that I’ve created.”
B.B.B has released his debut single “Mary Goes Round” alongside an official music video on October 31st, 2017. “It’s a cyclical dark pop song that plays off of the innocent visual of children at a merry-go-round to talk about the hard issue of drug use and the dangerous cycle that it can create,” explains B.B.B.  The message is wrapped in a dark dancing pop song creating a self-aware party track as B.B.B. sings, “Oh we feel like we’re on top of the world; self-medicating to numb the bite, and we can’t do this every night.” B.B.B.’s next single is set to release on February 14th, 2018.  Following that release will be three more singles during the rest of 2018.
B.B.B. opened for Virginia to Vegas at The Needle Vinyl Tavern in Edmonton (July 2017).
