Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience, and skills.
Started writing music in 2013 in grade 8 (during classes), because I was bored. Since 2015, I’ve been participating in songwriting & performance competitions in Macau. In 2016, I began performing in musical productions in Hong Kong, including Mulan & My Fair Lady. I also enjoy playing the ukulele. I have written songs with my ukulele and perform covers for people.
Tell us about your genre, concept, and idea behind your music video and the song.
“My Love is Gone” is a pop song written based on a sad childhood memory. As I worked through it, the song became sweet and bouncy. It describes how you feel when you remember an old childhood friend.
Tell us how you are promoting your music.
I’m promoting my music by posting it through my social media and radio stations for unsigned artists.
Tell us what makes you happy and what makes you sad.
What makes me happy? Seeing the people that I love and around me happy. What makes me sad? It makes me sad when people are rude when they don’t understand me.
Explain clearly the story or concept behind the song.
The concept of “My Love is Gone”. Well, it’s quite funny now that I’m writing about it. “My Love is Gone” is about a boy I fell in love with when I was young. To be honest, I couldn’t say in love, could I! I was only nine and he was eleven so it’s more of a crush. Over the years, I crushed on a lot of boys or now guys, but I could never forget ‘him’ because he made such an impact on my life. So, when I wrote ‘My Love is Gone’, I was also inspired by the movie ‘The Last Five Years’ soundtrack and it hit me. While I was writing ‘My Love is Gone’ it hit me again that I’m writing this song for my long-lost friend/crush. And the pain of knowing I’ll never see him again. I’m still hoping to cross paths again!
Give us links to where the song can be purchased.
My song can be purchased on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon.
Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew, or music video director, how the song was recorded, and how the music video was shot.
Music producer: Sean
I would like to give my thanks to Sean the music producer for helping me with ‘My Love Is Gone.’ I couldn’t ask for a better producer. When I had to sit back and let him do his magic. He got really focused on his work and when he is frustrated he likes to make jokes about it. I’m really thankful to have worked with him.
Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience, and your future goal.
I would say two years since the beginning of my professional recording of songs.
Tell us what makes you unique from others.
I am unique for many reasons. For starters, I am a ‘third culture kid’ and a world traveler. I also have amazing hair. I love learning, but school was not an easy ride. Because of overcoming challenges and hard work, I have a sense of confidence and maturity. And I have a kind, funny personality.
Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining to music.
Training in vocal/ instrument, + unique, + natural songwriter, + hard work, + willing to try.
List your five favorite songs including the artists.
‘Lost Boy’ by Ruth B,
‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ by Elvis Presley,
‘Helplessly’ by Tatiana Manaois,
‘New Rules’ by Dupa Lipa.
Tell us your position on “DIY” Do It Yourself” and signing to a major label.
DIY – Freedom and longer time.
Major Label – Controlled materials and image.
Doing it yourself you would have more freedom with yourself, as in song style and appearance, but it tends to take quite a long time.
Major label is the opposite of (DIY) where they like to take control of the material as in your sound, looks, and sometimes personality. So for me, my position would be ‘Do It Yourself’ as I am promoting my song on my own, but at the same time RSartists is also helping me, so it’s more like 50/50.
Tell us the instruments put together in this song.
Guitar, piano, percussion, drums.
Tell us other activities you will like to pursue apart from music.
Baking or Cafe Owner.
Tell us about gaining the confidence to sing in front of a large crowd for the first time.
My first ever performing in front of a large crowd was when I did my first songwriting competition in 2015. At soundcheck, I was nervous, big time! Overthinking the performance.
Performance day came, my partner and I waited for our names to be called on stage to perform. When the time came we were nervous, but the MC of the competition interviewed us before we performed and I wasn’t as nervous after that. When we performed we had a little mic problem, but we just kept on going and it was fixed before long. A large crowd made me feel nervous and scared of messing up, but I realized that I couldn’t see anything without my glasses on so I was able to sing with all my heart.
Tell us the best way to make money in the music business.
A great hit song or album.
To be unique.
To be really passionate and love what you do.
Narrate your recording experience.
My recording experience with RSartists was really nice and amazing. This was my first real recording experience. I was excited to start working on my own songs, but the process was going to take a long time because I lived in Asia. When I’m in the studio recording the first few sessions I ended up falling asleep because of the time difference! Sean and I would discuss how the song should sound or would this fit? I learned a lot of things throughout the recording experience.
