A scampish folk troubadour dreaming of high seas and low trees with the Rumours quick on his heels
Melding wiry country jangle with heartfelt folk, Miles Calder & The Rumours will win your heart and woo your dancing shoes. Miles songs exhibit raw honesty and eloquent storytelling, while the Rumours’ arrangement and performance of the songs offers a captivating and diverse alt-country sound.
The band formed in late 2011, fuelled by the recollections of a fateful late night jam and a mutual love of all things earnest and Americana. They have since supported M. Ward (USA) and Fly My Pretties (NZ) and had local and international radio play, including Radio New Zealand National and a feature on award winning BBC broadcaster Mark Coles show ‘The Shed’.
In March 2013 the band recorded in the iconic Surgery Studios in Tasman Street, Wellington. With Ryan Prebble at the helm they recorded seven tracks live over two days. The resulting debut EP, The Crossing Over, captures their raw energetic country, lush harmonies and delicate folk ballads. The EP has been nominated for the 2014 Taite Music Prize (Best Album) and the Recording Industry Association Best Country Music Album and The Avenue is a finalist in the International Songwriting Contest.
