iRoc Omega

Born in Chicago, iRoc would move to Columbus, GA and Far Rockaway Queens, NY before settling in Anchorage, AK. With his parents divorcing soon after, and life in Anchorage being similar to any other city, the next 10 plus years was hard and would only get harder for the soon to be rapper. With poverty setting in and forcing him to resort to a faster way of life in the streets, initially, and just as something to do, iRoc started rapping with some of the other kids in school. But as countless people recognized his talent, it would soon become a passion not yet strong enough to overpower the pull of fast money. Life in the fast-lane would lead him to experience the loss of many friends and even his own freedom, facing a temporary stint within the system. Upon his release, the choice was finally made to pursue music a lot more seriously.

Having recorded with the likes of NE-YO, Miguel, Kurupt, Devin the Dude, MC LYTE, Erick Sermon, C-BO, etc., iRoc Omega secured his first major recording contract to release his debut album “Weight of My World.” Initially regarded with high expectations, the album ended up being shelved along with iRoc being dropped from the label. Discouraged by the cold-heartedness of the major label machine, he decided to forge ahead and continue building his fan base independently.

Opening for headliners such as Kelly Rowland, Outkast, DMX, Paul Wall, 112, Warren G., SWV, Doug E. Fresh, E-40, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, and many more, diehard fans were dissatisfied with the former Black Ice Records/Universal Records recording artist’s debut independent release entitled “The Coldest Fire”, so he dropped the refreshing and recharged “The Coldest FIRE: RELOADED and REDEEMED” six months later. Now, promising never to disappoint again, his new upcoming release entitled “Forever The Coldest Fire,” starring “It’s All On You” featuring Snoop Dogg & Dre’ Rock, in addition to being produced by Emmy Award winning composer Jason Hausman, is highly anticipated.

Servant – Down

Go into detail on why you like music as a career.

I like music as a career because music reaches the masses and can influence and encourage those who tune in. I believe that most rap music has a negative tone and is wrongly shaping the younger, even older generations. I am attempting to counter that pattern through hip-hop by providing subtle but vibrant music that has substance in order to, perhaps, help to improve society.

.

.

.

Brief us the feedback you are getting from fans on your music.

Most of the feedback I receive are positive. People seem to enjoy my music as well as the message it is sending. My fan base has grown 36% since April.

.

.

.

Discuss the relevance of social networking to music.

Social networking is primary to music popularization. You could reach hundreds, even thousands in a matter of days if your social networks are strong and consistent.

.

.

.

Tell us how you record your song.

I record on a microphone using Audacity.

.

.

.

Tell us the story behind the song.

The story behind “Down” is relatively simple. Most people I know don’t listen to conscious music. They’d rather hear something about sex, drugs, money so that they can connect with what gives them pleasure and not what makes them think or feel guilty about not being the best person they can be. So “Down” is a reflection of that and it’s basically asking the public to listen and hear my message which is – it’s time to correct ourselves.

.

.

.

State your musical skills.

I rap, write songs, compose beats, master tracks and produce albums.

.

.

.

Tell us how long it takes to complete a song from the start.

It takes me about 2 to 4 hours to complete a song.

.

.

.

Go into detail on how you develop your lyrics and melody.

I develop my lyrics based on the mood and feelings I get after hearing a beat. Sometimes I am inspired by other artist’s songs that I come across. In other cases it’s an experience I have or an encounter with people or certain environments.

.

.

.

Discuss music in full details.

To me music is universal. It connects all people on some level. It is one of the best pass times, it motivates, it soothes and relaxes. It can reach, teach and influence. It can calm and even heal. It’s nostalgic and it helps obtain and preserve memories and experiences.

.

.

.

State your five favourite genres of music with reasons.

Hip-hop, R&B, jazz, soul, classic rock and pop. These are my favorite types of music because they all provide mood and leave lasting impressions.

.

.

.

Discuss your rehearsal.

Rehearsal is ordinary. I don’t rehearse too vigorously because it becomes more stressful, rather than just being natural.

.

.

.

Describe the chemistry between you and your fans during a live performance.

Fans seem to connect to me on stage because my aim is to get them fully engaged; make them a part of the performance so that they not only enjoy my songs but view my movements, hear my words, and feel them at the same time.

.

.

.

Discuss your personality in full details.

I am an introvert and not comfortable discussing things about my personality.

.

.

.

Discuss your music career.

My music career has just begun so I’m just getting the feel of it now.

.

.

.

List your musical work.

So far I only released one album called “Captive” which is currently available on Amazon, CD baby etc. I have worked with many local artists, composing beats and producing songs/albums for them.

.

.

.

Share your memorable experiences with us.

Most memorable experience music wise was performing at my first show, opening for Rah-digga. Second to that was releasing my first novel entitled “Absence of Will”, which is also available in stores Barns & Noble, Amazon, Dorrance, etc.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Servant – Basically I came up with this name because my life seems to consist of helping and doing for others so they’re happy, at the cost of my own happiness and peace of mind.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

Down – The meaning to this song is that I’m down (troubled) because no one will listen to me even though I’m telling them what’s best for them and they know that I’m right.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.

The name of the new upcoming album is “Uncut”. Simply put, there is no holding back.

G-Quinn – The Sonrise Mixtape

While still in his mother’s womb, his mother was in a major car accident, but they survived. G-Quinn aka Garrett Quinton Braaf was born in Manhattan, New York, March 22, 1987 a month and a half premature, with the umbilical cord around his neck but again survived. At age 3, Garrett was at a living room window in Brooklyn and just as he moved away from the window, a bullet came through. Over time, the decision was made to move to Sunrise, Florida. “G” received some musical influence from his Caribbean roots. Garrett’s family is from Suriname, South America which allowed him to be less restricted in his view of the world and the many cultures in it. While living in Ft. Lauderdale he was heavily involved in Church youth groups and Church Activities, Garrett was a Crucifer at Christ the King Lutheran Church (the one who carries the cross and all others follow at the beginning of the service in a Lutheran Church). He started listening to more secular hip-hop before he began writing on his own, Proud of his skill; his father challenged him to write positive lyrics. Later, Garrett was introduced to Gospel Hip Hop at a Christian youth conference in Miami called Acquire the Fire. When he discovered that there was a music genre out there that had the same exact flavor and hype as secular hip hop but without the explicit language, he was blown away. “G” started listening to Tunnel Ratz, Souljahz, and Cross Movement to name a few before realizing his call. He started off in the musical trio named G.T.S. which stood for 3 things: their real names which were Garrett, Terrence, and Steven, it stood for their stage names G-Quinn, Theomatic, and Souldier, and it stood for them as a group GREATEST TESTIMONY SPOKEN.

Later, with no hard feelings, G-Quinn went further and started his pursuit as a solo artist. G-Quinn entered Gospel Star Search Live where he won 2nd place in the youth category. He was not happy, and felt he did not do his best, but his parents told him that God had a plan, and to be patient. “G” then met Prodigal Son at a performance hosted by Gospel Star Search Live in which he was a guest artist. G-Quinn gave Prodigal Son a CD to review, but before he met him again Garrett was in a SEVERE accident which should have taken his life, but again he survived with just elbow surgery. G-Quinn was more convinced than ever God had a purpose for him. Since then, G-Quinn has been mentored by Prodigal Son and has produced two tracks on his CD “Welcome to HOLYwood” As well as edited his music videos for “Power in Da Name of Jesus”, & “Lemme Hear Ya.”

He was then taken under the spiritual guidance of Chico Xpress & Realize of the husband & wife ministry called”M.O.T.C.” (Messengers Of The Christ) “G” has shared the stage with Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Mr. Del, Sean Slaughter, G-Stylez, Rey King, Da T.R.U.T.H., Canton Jones, G-Notes, Dre Marshall, Justin-Credible and was one of the opening acts for T- Bone (who starred in Fighting Temptations).

Most recently, G-Quinn was a recipient of a Holy Hip Hop Award in 2011, at the Holy Hip Hop Awards on the same day as fellow artists Sho Baraka and Mali Music in Atlanta Georgia.

Leah Michelle Hamilton

Tell us your real names, country of birth and childhood experience.

I am Leah Michelle Hamilton and was born and always lived in California in the United States. I grew up in a pastor’s family and have always loved to be around all kinds of people, and loved to play music, and play sports. I saw my parents always helping and encouraging people, and grew to see God work miracles in people’s lives. My parents gave me accordion lessons and I quickly learned. My instructor was trying to persuade my parents to buy a higher quality accordion, and since we lived modestly, and we already had a piano in the house, we decided to change to piano. It was a toss-up whether to pursue sports and track further or music; as I had made it to the Junior Olympics thus far. Music won out, and the rest is history!

.

.

.

Tell us your academic qualification.

I graduated from Biola University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in music. Then I got an M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling from their Institute of Marriage and Family Counseling, at Biola as well.
.

.

.

Elaborate on your music career, band name, experience and skills.

I have played piano and been classically trained from 8 years old on through College. I began playing for churches, school choirs, and recitals. I released my first CD, “Complements” in 2007. It contains my piano playing on many wonderful classical pieces, and my first original song, “Better Because of You.” Many other talented musicians played instrumental parts as well on it. In 2010 I released my Christmas CD, “Unexpected Light.” I played piano, and wrote 2 new original songs for it! It was co-produced with Stan Breckenridge, Jazz musician. In 2014, I wrote music and lyrics, played piano, and sang on my album, “Undivided Heart.”  My new album, “Miracle” which begins with the track, “Wandering Stranger” I wrote the music and lyrics with Mike Garson playing piano, and many wonderful singers included.

I love the song writing aspect, and continue to write, play piano at events, and continue as a therapist in private practice.

.

.

.

Tell us your genre and idea behind the song.

Part of the challenge of this CD, “MIRACLE” was what genre to place it in.  Its style varies from pop, world, contemporary piano, and alternative. “Wandering Stranger” has a large beautiful sound that I wanted to portray the vastness that loneliness can feel, and the equally beautiful feelings of finding companionship, family, and love.  This is a song that could be used greatly in a movie depicting this. Mike Garson, David Bowie’s piano man, co-produced this with me, and helped built the piano stylings that he played.
.

.

.

Tell us how to run a record label based on your experience as an artist.

It really takes many people, with varied skills, not being defensive, but willing to try and create something new and beautiful. I think it needs to be focused more on the music and the story/experiences it is relating, and less about trying to make music styles such a rigid box to try to stuff music in.  I do see more of openness for all musicians and genres to work together more lately, and I love it.
.

.

.

Tell us how you are promoting your music.

I have been working with CD Baby to distribute and sell my music world wide online, and with a variety of additional strategies, with one of these being the Indie Bible for musicians. I have contacted and sent my music to radio stations, and music reviewers. I often share my music with charities, churches, and organizations as well. What I have enjoyed doing the most is to carry several of my latest CDs with me and give them to the various people I meet along the way. My husband and I recently travelled to France, Switzerland, and Italy. Along the way I met hoteliers, nuns, housekeepers, and business people from all over the world who were excited to have a chance to listen and enjoy my music.

.

.

.

Share your press release and reviews with us.

It has recently been approved to be on different radio stations and blogs, and is currently in process.  Some of these include, BBS Radio, Gospel Clipboard, Artist First World Radio Network, Christian Beats, and Renegade Radio. And of course, “Broadpals Music.”
.

.

.

Explain the story behind the song.

My daughter served in the Philippines for over a year with an organization that was dedicated to stopping child sex trafficking and slavery. She was there during the 7.2 earthquake and Hyan, the most powerful typhoon ever recorded. She often described feeling alone in a strange country, not understanding the language, and dealing with some of the darkest sides of humanity and disasters. It is when we have lost the “home” of familiarity, safety, and hope that we find our forever “home” is with God and in relationships and family where we love and are loved.

During, and after a visit to the Philippines, where I also experienced many of the above emotions, I began writing this song.  I grew to love the people and culture as my daughter did as well.

.

.

.

List the radio stations, television stations and blogs that have aired or featured your new song.

BBS Radio, Gospel Clipboard, Artist First World Radio Network, Christian Beats, and Renegade Radio.

.

.

.

State the names of other members of your band, music producer, crew.

Produced by Leah Michelle Hamilton.  Co-producer/piano Mike Garson.  Music and lyrics by Leah Michelle Hamilton. Music programming, Recording, and Mixing, Austin Creek.  Vocals by Grant and Victoria Hansen, Joss Cobb, and Marianne Haaland.  Mastered by Ron Boustead at Resolution Mastering.  CD  Design and consulting by Stacey Stanley, Torie Hamilton, and Soren Iverson.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

As a pastor’s daughter and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I understand what the darkness of depression, tragedy, lost relationships, and isolation is like. I wanted this song to show that love and family can be found in different ways than may be expected, and that hope can come in the midst of these difficult times. I want to help others take note of how God works, in large and small ways, even when it is so very difficult, waiting on God to show us a way out, or just “leaning into” Him and others in the meantime.
.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music business, your experience and your future goal.

Officially began to create CDs and music in 2007 with my first CD, “Complements.” It has been an adventure, with a huge learning curve, and growing along the way. I hope to continue writing music and lyrics as a composer, producer, and continue piano playing for events.
.

.

.

Tell us what makes you unique from others.

My genuine love for all people and God. My passion for music, life, work and fun. It is easier to let someone else say what they think of me.  So here are quotes from my 3 daughters in a book of pictures and sayings they wrote for me recently on Mother’s Day about things I’ve taught them. “The beauty of warmly welcoming and connecting with any person who enters the room, no matter their presentation or reputation.” “To use my words to uplift and encourage those around me, and never to tear down.” “How to be inclusive and welcoming to all people. This means showing love towards the most and least of these.” “How to give glory to God in all that I do, especially in the expression of my gifts and creativity.” “That as an adult, you can still dress stylishly, be silly, have fun, and joke with those around you. Your age only sets rules for you if you let it. Just be yourself!”

This song “Wandering Stranger” and CD, “Miracle” does not sound like a single style or most contemporary Christian music. Some songs have the sound of an expansive movie sound track, another Russian folk song sound, others are worship songs, and another old wonderful hymn with a fun jazz bent. This music has a great deal of variety of style and heart.

.

.

.

Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining music.

My strength is I am a great sight reader of music, can make up piano songs and play for hours, and I stick to complete projects.  I also love any new musician ideas and things that are “out of the box” or norm.

Initially, my weakness was playing by ear and transposing to different keys. I have worked on that and being able to more quickly play a song I am hearing, and also keep up the beats.

.

.

.

List your five favourite songs including the artists.

“Skyfall”  by Adele;

“Un-break My Heart” by Toni Braxton;

“Paper Roses” by Marie Osmond;

“Hopelessly Devoted to You” by Olivia Newton-John;

.

.

.

Tell us your position on “Do It Yourself” and signing to a major label.

I think there are pros and cons to both. So consider whatever is in front of you at the time.
.

.

.

Tell us other activities you are pursuing apart from music.

I love trying/eating  new cooking recipes; walking; playing tennis; helping friends and  others as a therapist; reading through the Bible in a year; new adventures exploring areas  with my family and friends here and in other countries.

“Miracle” songbook will be released 6-21-18. Can pre-order now.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Leah Michelle Hamilton is my full married name. My dad said “Leah” was in the blood line of Christ, and so that was why my first name was chosen. I liked the name, but in college a professor went on about how “Leah” in the Bible was the “ugly” one. Actually, it only says she had “weak eyes.” Probably she needed glasses.  And yes, she wasn’t always loved the most, but God loved her and used her for a purpose, just like she was.
.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

“Wandering Stranger” shows how anyone can feel like a stranger in a foreign country when language, smells, food, jokes, etc. are all new or not understood easily. When you find love in God, family, and friends, then that is truly “home.”

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.

“Miracle” was chosen as the title for these 8 original songs because each song shows some type of “miracle.” MIRACLES come in both small and large packages. The “miracle” of being in a foreign country and finding family in another person.  The “miracles” God reveals to comfort in times of fear. The “miracle” of walking alongside a friend or stranger when they need support or encouragement. The “greatest miracle” of forgiveness offered by the Prince of Peace who offered the ultimate price of peace.  The “future miracle” of hope for a “Heavenly Country” where there will be no more tears or sorrows. “For God so loved the WORLD that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16 C. Austin Miles in 1912  penned it this way so beautifully,  “And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own.”

David James “Downtown Kids”

Album: ‘DOWNTOWN KIDS’ Digital EP OUT NOW

ONE TO WATCH! CANADIAN RISING STAR

David James “Downtown Kids”

David James is a rising star on the Canadian country music scene. The Manitoba native had a very successful 2016, following his signing with MDM Recordings Inc. That year included the release of his debut EP “Songs About A Girl”, which was recognized with two Canadian Country Music Association Award nominations, including one in the “Rising Star” category.

In Canada, ‘Downtown Kids’, his sophomore EP was released in late 2017. It spawned a Top 10 Canadian hit, ‘Sun Set On It’ and the latest single and title track is making waves with airplay and streams on the increase.  In Australia, the EP is available now digitally and “Downtown Kids” (the single) is at media.

This tune is about remembering the good times of growing up and the unconstrained fun that was had. It’s about the effervescence of youth and what comes along with that – being “rebels in a small town, hands up, windows down.

Known for his charming sense of humour, like many artists, music and songwriting has always been in David’s soul. He jokes his career path was clearly defined,

when at age 14, following my impassioned performance of Aerosmith’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’, I came in almost dead last and lost my junior high school Canadian Idol.  I knew then that music must be my destiny!!

Signed to award-winning Canadian country music label MDM Recordings Inc., David describes his sound as melodic pop-rock influenced country.
