Deadbeat Blackout – Nemesis

Deadbeat Blackout is an all original heavy rock/metal band formed in 2017 in Olympia, WA. Taking various influences from rock and metal bands from the past and present, along with throwing in some punk and melodic touches for flavor, the result became Deadbeat Blackout’s brand of high energy music with no bullshit!

Deadbeat Blackout is also the combination of Hekate on vocals, Mike Uuereb on guitar, Craig Fredrickson on drums, and Chris Johnson on bass. This dynamic was started with Mike and Craig meeting in early 2017 and sharing a common vision of how they wanted to bring their music to the masses. Both had been in various music projects in the past but wanted this project to completely utilize and incorporate the talents and personalities of EVERYONE involved to shape the music and what the band would become.

After a long and exhausting search for the right guy to carry the bass load, they found the talented, hardworking Chris Johnson to deliver the bottom end that the band wanted and needed. Another long and exhausting search for the right vocalist continued until the stars and skies aligned and they met with the ultra-talented Hekate. Her high energy personality, skilled vocal dynamics, and arduous work ethic were the perfect fit for the band. The music was written and shaped by all four very quickly and Deadbeat Blackout was born!

Today, Deadbeat Blackout has played various clubs and stages around the Puget Sound region, including Louie G’s Pizza, The Funhouse, The Skylark, Studio Seven, Erebus, The Substation, The Plaid Pig Live Music Lounge, The Anchor Pub, Tim’s Tavern, The Lucky Liquor, McCoy’s Tavern, Le Voyeur and the Bethel Saloon. Hekate’s high energy stage presence and vocal dynamics, along with the tight and talented musicianship of Mike, Craig, and Chris has brought them many friends and followers that have become a part of the ever-growing Deadbeat Blackout family, including one Tom Smith, who’s love, and support has become invaluable to them.

Deadbeat Blackout released their self-titled studio EP in July 2018 and also has a Live EP; “Live at The Skylark” recorded April 7, 2018.  Deadbeat Blackout is planning for a full studio album to be recorded and released in early 2019. In the meantime and well into the future Deadbeat Blackout will stay busy with their signature live performances.

PLAY IT LOUD, BECAUSE WE DO! – This is not just a cheesy tagline. This is the philosophy of what Deadbeat Blackout stands for. Make your presence known in this world, and you will leave a mark on it. Crank it up to 11 and give it all you got! Love It, Live It, DIG IT!

Perry Michael Allen – Club House Jam

Perry Michael Allen was born and raised in Memphis U.S.A., the heartland of Soul. Allen’s’ musical roots run deep into the contemporary music marketplace. His father Perry Allen, an educator and Memphis’ foremost jazz radio disc-jockey, left a lasting impression on the young and talented musician.

During high school, Allen was awarded the unique opportunity to study the art of record making with some of Memphis’ greatest session musicians. Under the wings of master producer “Papa” Willie Mitchell and Stax hit writer David Porter (of “Soul Man” fame). Allen sharpened his songwriting and production skills and later became an artist/writer and arranger for both Stax Records and the legendary Hi Records where he worked for many years with Mitchell and soul legend Al Green, during their chart-topping careers.

Since then, Master Perry Michael Allen has collaborated on numerous successful and famous albums. Berklee College of Music has recognized Perry Michael Allen as a Music Production Specialist.

As a composer and arranger, “Session-Man” Allen has received many awards including RIAA Certified Gold and Platinum Albums and the coveted Memphis Blues Foundation “Blue Note Award”. His songs and tracks are also licensed to many movies and TV shows. Some are: “C.S.I.” -“Dr. House MD” -“JAG”, “Ally McBeal”, and for movies “Pulp Fiction”, “Munich”, Mickey Blue Eyes and many more.

In addition to his own records for Stax, Hi and other record companies, Allen penned three hits for Al Green; “Hanging On”, “So Good To Be Here” and “Soon As I Get Home” as well as recording and arranging for other well-knowns such as Bozz Skaggs, The Sweet Inspirations, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, Anita Ward, The Memphis Horns, Bobby Rush, The Soul Children, Syl Johnson, European groups “Wet Wet Wet”, Axelle Red and others.

During his first term at Stax Records, he recorded “The Sweet Inspirations”, the legendary backup singers of Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley and also recorded David Porter’s album “Sweat and Love”, accompanying Porter at the famous WattStax concert which was the subject of the groundbreaking film of the same name. He later was songwriter/arranger/vocalist with the Stax/Fantasy records group “KILO”.

During his early years at Hi Records Allen made many recordings with The Hi Rhythm Section and worked for years alongside Mitchell and the legend of soul Al Green co-writing, arranging and appearing with Al Green as musical director in Las Vegas, on Broadway and a host of theatres and television programs including The Tonight Show, The Late Show, Soul Train and The Midnight Special.

Allen also worked on projects at Fame Records (Muscle Shoals) with writer George Jackson and performed as keyboardist/ vocalist on Anita Ward’s “Ring My Bell” tour. Allen later was called to work as producer/arranger/musician for Willie Mitchells’ new record label “Waylo”. For the Waylo label, he arranged and recorded the works of Al Green (He Is The Light) “Lynn White”, “Lanier &Co.”, the European group “Wet Wet Wet” (The Memphis Sessions), David Hudson’s album “Night & Day” and others as well as his own singles “Music All The Time”, “Turn On The Music”, “Ooo Wee” and “Highway”.

Perry Michael arrived in Europe for the first time touring as music director and road manager for superstar and friend Al Green. Later that year, he decided to return to Europe. Since moving there he has written, produced and recorded his own work, including the CD “Deep Inside” for Irma Molto Jazz, and “On The Radio”, “Push Push Push” and other singles for Tabloid/Polygram. Working with acclaimed house producer Gianni Bini, Allen released several mixes including “Ride” and “Back To My Roots”. Also during this time, his “Simple Things” EP was the first release for his independent label Nugen Music. The single “Club House Jam” is the second and precedes the album “Tracks Vol. 1”. The Album “Now and Then” will be released in 2019.

Allen is now a major contributor to the revival of Soul Music in Europe where he now lives and has reunited and worked with many friends and mentors including Isaac Hayes, The Blues Brothers, Solomon Burke, Booker T., and the MGs, the late great Rufus Thomas and countless others.

Adding to an ongoing career Allen now offers “Session Man” courses and music production counseling to emerging artists/musicians, European music institutes and recording studios.

When asked why he wanted to offer his courses, Allen replied:

“I was lucky to be inspired by great artists and producers and to have them as mentors. I want to convey inspiration and knowledge to musicians and artists who feel they are “on the outside looking in”. For me, there is nothing more rewarding than the feeling that you get when someone tells you that their success is due to what they learned from you and the things you’ve been able to convey to them”.

One Gun Shy started in 2011 with drive and determination to do something different on a musical note. The guys work very hard in everything they do. They love to joke around and hang out with their fans but take their music seriously. The band members come from varied and unique backgrounds, but share a common goal and vision for their music.

Take five highly motivated professional musicians, add professional gear and professional studio recordings, and combine their brand of Alternative Hard Rock with crunchy, gritty riffs and catchy hooks, and you have One Gun Shy. The band has carved out their niche in the Seattle area and is a staple of the Pacific Northwest Music Scene.

Growing up on a farm outside Moorhead, Minnesota, John (aka Aldo) discovered an early interest in piano by listening to his mother play. His love of the keys was born, and he began taking lessons at age ten from a local piano teacher. A natural musician, by age 15 he accompanied the church choir and served as church choir director for the high school students for seven years. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Music Industry from Moorhead State University, where he was introduced to the field of musical scoring. He has since scored several television shows, documentaries, and other projects.

John is most proud of the Upper Midwest Emmy award he won for his work on the PBS documentary, Delafield. Other notable projects include the nationally syndicated PBS series Painting with Paulson and the theme to the popular Prairie Public Television kids’ series, Kid’s Zone. His music has been picked up by national television shows, including the Today Show, As the World Turns, Last Call with Carson Daly, NPR, and the Rosie O’Donnell Show, among others. Additionally, he served as the music director of the Black Swan Dinner Theatre in Fargo, ND for one year before moving to Minneapolis to join a friend’s band, Nero’s House Band that played throughout the Twin Cities metro area during the 1990s.

John has released six albums under his nickname, Aldo, which he got tagged with at age 15 (long story). In 2002, he released Expressions, available exclusively through Cardtunes, a locally-owned promotional company. He can also be heard on the award-winning Acoustitherapy series from Colorado Creative Music.

Lady Gaga x Bradley Cooper – I’ll Never Love Again

For their retelling of the classic A Star Is Born tale—fading celebrity meets ingénue, passes torch—writer/director Bradley Cooper and co-star Lady Gaga had to do a little role reversal. Gaga makes her first turn as a leading lady (big-voiced, fresh-faced singer Ally), while Cooper both directs and sings (aging country-rocker Jackson Maine) for the first time. It turns out that Cooper is just as impressive a singer as Gaga is an actress, and the intense dynamic between the two leads is present from the start.

As Gaga told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe, the pair first huddled around the piano in her Malibu home to practice a Creedence Clearwater Revival song, and she was stunned when she first heard his singing voice. “Instantly we started to harmonize, and we were looking at each other and laughing, and it was just this magical experience.” Cooper claims the inspiration for his character came from Eddie Vedder; Gaga merely needed to look in the mirror, drawing on bittersweet memories of her pre-fame days as Stefani Germanotta, busking outside of bars on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. “I was so bullied and so insecure and so depressed, and that is what I drew from,” she recalled.

That vulnerability is on display in the movie’s central number, “Shallow,” a power ballad that comes closest to Gaga’s usual recorded fare. The rest of the soundtrack encompasses country-rockers (“Diggin’ My Grave”), Carole King-style piano bops (“Look What I Found”), and slow-dance duets (“Music to My Eyes”). This wide variety of Broadway-ready cues is the product of a dream team of songwriters, including Natalie Hemby, Hillary Lindsey, Jason Isbell, Lori McKenna, Julia Michaels, Lukas Nelson, and Mark Ronson.

But what grounds it all is Gaga’s and Cooper’s star power, and their natural flair for the dramatic. The day they filmed the movie’s climactic piano torch song, “I’ll Never Love Again,” Gaga rushed from the soundstage to her friend Sonya’s bedside at the hospital; she passed away that day, after a long struggle with cancer. At the urging of Sonya’s husband, Gaga drove right back to set and poured everything she was feeling into that performance. “I sang that song for Jackson,” she told Zane, “and for her.”

Mariane – Sound of Drums

Rising Mexican singer and songwriter releases new video for her new song SOUND OF DRUMS, a mix of dramatic soul with melancholic pop. The music video features people from all different races and backgrounds, inspired by portraits from photographers around the world. The main message of the song and the video is to create awareness and conscientize people about the social and political tensions in the world; it’s a call to action for people to stand together despite their differences in beliefs, race or origin.

.

.

.

Brief us on how to impress fans during a live performance.

My live performances are based on raw feeling and stories; the songs that I perform are part of my upcoming album, including this single and they are all different stories about love, thoughts and the world. I love telling people what inspired a song and also ways to relate to it; behind every feeling there is a story to tell.

.

.

.

List the names of your biggest supporters.

Miguel Godinez, Alejandra Rivera, Maria Jose, Barajas Daniel Azpe, my family and friends.

.

.

.

Explain what has motivated you so far in your music career.

I truly do believe, especially in this century, that music is the key for changing the world. For me art is a reflection of society, therefor I think there should be better content that brings people together and gives something valuable and good to people’s lives, I want to be a part of that with music, I want to make good music for people and by “good” I mean music that adds something positive to their lives, music that makes people change for good, moves hearts, encourages values, makes them happy, gives hope or helps them find answers. I want to grow on my songwriting and mostly meet and learn from all people that I meet, I think collaborating and team work is key. I would love to be part of such an amazing project that brings people together like this for music and I hope to add to it with what I am and what I have to give as much as I can.

.

.

.

Discuss your experience as an artist.

I was always very shy until I took the courage to burst my bubble and sing, because I always loved it and dreamed about doing it, it took me a while but in the end I managed to be brave enough. Ever since then I keep pushing myself to explore and get out of my comfort zone more often, being an artist is a lifetime journey, filled with bumps and turns but worth living for, you get to know and discover a lot about the world, the people around you and yourself.

.

Tell us the biggest mistake you have ever made in your music career.

Expecting to grow quickly or expecting to be good fast. Well not actually expecting but wanting it and being impatient.

.

.

.

Discuss the story behind the song.

We are living in a very delicate moment in the history of the world. There are many political and social problems everywhere you look at; there is an environment of uncertainty. This song is a call to the world to do something, to speak up, to think, to open our eyes and solve our issues, to stand by each other.

.

.

.

Tell us how to fund a music project.

Self-funding and doing side jobs to get the money is my experience on this, but for sure there are many ways to do it.

.

.

.

Discuss your opinion on the safety of fans during shows and live performances.

The most important thing is that people should be safe and comfortable in a music atmosphere, especially if it’s from an artist that they admire and feel related to the music. In a perfect world, it shouldn’t even be something to talk about cause.

.

.

.

Tell us the greatest piece of advice someone has given you as an artist.

Follow your own feeling and gut. Your soul always knows what you have to do to get to where you are going, the rest is only noise.

.

.

.

Tell us what you will improve or change in your music.

I want to have more soul and jazz, more vibe but still deep and with meaning.

.

.

.

Discuss vocal training and how you protect your vocal.

I think is key, although the feeling should never be put aside. But correct vocal training will give you a bit more confidence to control and take care of your voice and therefor express with less worry and at more ease.

.

.

.

Discuss your best mood during performance.

Best mood is when I completely let go of my thoughts and I’m 100% feeling and expressing the song.

.

.

.

List your best artists with reasons.

Lianne La Havas: great guitar style, she is vibey and fresh sound.

Tom Mishc: amazing guitarist and he mixed jazz with disco genre in a modern, cool and vibey way.

Jorja Smith: great lyrics and cool proposal.

Corinne Bailey: a lot of soul and truthfulness with jazzy chords.

.

.

.

Discuss your existence as an artist.

I think I am here to talk about topics that not a lot of people talk about through music: love in a bigger picture (not just as in “love stories”), social and political issues, personal growth, values etc…

.

.

.

Tell us the greatest problem you think is facing the society and the solution.

People don´t know or love themselves truthfully and genuinely, that brings fuzz and shallowness. I think the word “love” is sometimes misconceived and misunderstood and even underestimated. Also I’m sure the world needs humbleness and faith, world needs to acknowledge God’s presence.

.

.

.

Discuss your songwriting and recording.

My songwriting process comes in different ways but mostly I get melody ideas with lyrics and build up a song from that, other times is with an instrument.

Ten Years Today – Conflicted

We’re taking you to a random Ten Years Today gig… Floris, Simon and Mathijs are giving all they got on stage, the place they belong. They get off with quite the ‘natural high’. That night, the three friends are getting drunk on the festival vibe, when a production-employee offers them a spare hotel room. Nice! Despite the good vibes and energy, they manage to get in one of those silly, drunk arguments. In that hazy night, they manage to lock each other out of the freshly gotten hotel room. The next morning, two of the guys wake up on the floor in front of their hotel room, while number three is still unknowingly dreaming. Later that morning, shit tends to get physical at breakfast, but luckily everything is forgotten after a firm hug. All that’s left to think about is the banger of a set they delivered the day before. Energetic, musically tight and all in good fun. Stories like this one define the dynamic in Ten Years Today, to give everything, frustrations and a friendship that can take a punch. We are extremely proud to announce the release of Ten Years Today’s debut album. In 37 minutes, you’ll hear slick rock tunes with recognizable hooks, the way Arctic Monkeys and Red Hot Chilli Peppers used to make them. They have been playing the smaller venues in the Netherlands and are now ready to cross borders. In March it’s the UK’s turn to dance along to tunes like ‘Do Ya’ and ‘Praise The Shit’.

.

.

.

Brief us on how to impress fans during a live performance.

We want our audience to experience an unforgettable night, and them to escape the boring reality that’s full of shit. We do this by making music and we’re giving our all during our live sets. Making music is our way of escaping, we’re not even trying to give everything, and it just pours out of us.

.

.

.

List the names of your biggest supporters.

There are couple of special ones that have believed in us from the start and they’ve been with us through everything, and still are! Love to all the mums!

.

.

.

Explain what has motivated you so far in your music career.

Like we’ve said before, music is our way of escaping ‘real life’. Everything that bothers us or that goes around in our heads, we can put it all in our songs. The documentary ‘A Dutch Connection’ by Bram van Splinteren has been a huge inspiration. Watch it and you’ll also want to play in a band!

.

.

.

Discuss your experience as an artist.

Being an artist is actually quite complicated. I always thought it just meant making music and that would be easy. Well, that was a lie. Making music is of course a big part of being an artist and it can be lovely, but writing music has to be hard and has to cost effort and all of a sudden you have something beautiful. At least that’s how it works for me, because it’s different for every musician! When you’ve made something beautiful it feels really good, but being an artist is not just about sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. There’s getting gigs, marketing and a lot of other ‘dull’ stuff like sending out emails over and over again before you get a reply. It’s hard work.

.

.

.

Tell us the biggest mistake you have ever made in your music career.

I started making music at a very young age, it’s quite hard to know then what you should and should not do. I might have pushed people away in music industry by being too enthusiastic. I wish I would have communicated differently back then, but I learned!

.

.

.

Discuss the story behind the song.

‘Conflicted’ is about having meaningless sex, but realizing that in the end we all want something more, something ‘real’. Every time I tried to have something real with someone, I managed to fuck it up and to end up alone again. This song is actually about loneliness.

.

.

.

Tell us how to fund a music project.

For our debut album we had started a crowdfunding and we got a lot of nice response to that, so in the end we were able to make our debut with the money of our fans and supporters. Shout out to them! But next to crowdfunding, we’re trying to make money with shows and selling merchandise as well as vinyl of course!

.

.

.

Discuss your opinion on the safety of fans during shows and live performances.

We play shows because we want to give the audience an unforgettable night where we can all forget everything for a minute. We don’t want them not to be able to retell the night… Sometimes our shows do get wild, but we always keep an eye out on our fans and we always see how other fans take care of each other as well! No one gets hurt; we’ll make sure of that.

.

.

.

Tell us the greatest piece of advice someone has given you as an artist.

There’s a lot of musicians and professionals in the music business that have helped us load through the years by giving us small advice on how to sell ourselves as a band. The best advice I ever got was not to worry too much about what other people say and think and that I should do what feels good to me.

.

.

.

Tell us what you will improve or change in your music.

Nothing very specific, music is about feeling and I will always write what I feel. We live and we grow. We’ll see what the future brings…

.

.

.

Discuss vocal training and how you protect your vocal.

Every day I practice and right before shows I make sure my voice is warmed up, which is very important! If you practice half an hour every day, you notice a proper difference with what you felt and sounded like before. These exercises might sound or look a bit weird, but at least you get to keep your voice… And you’ve only got one.

.

.

.

Discuss your best mood during performance.

Doesn’t really matter in what mood I am before a performance, as soon as I step on stage, everything changes. We don’t just want the audience to forget normal day life; we do so ourselves as well, it just happens. We lose ourselves in our music, which is the best part about making music.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Ten Years Today – we ever started as a duo on a dusty attic and Simon, our bass player, came up with Ten Years Today. Right before I realized that my brother turned ten that day. We thought it was fate!

.

.

.

List your best artists with reasons.

There are so many! At this moment my favourite bands are Parquet Courts and together PANGEA. I can totally find myself in the lyrics of the latest Parquet Courts album, they’re just so beautifully written. And my forever love are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the way they play their music live is just amazing to me. I always like when a band is better live than on vinyl.

.

.

.

Discuss your existence as an artist.

I exist, so I’m an artist. There’s nothing I could or wanted to do.

.

.

.

Tell us the greatest problem you think is facing the society and the solution.

Social media – It makes everyone a bit of a loner, we keep looking at our screen and we miss out on the lives around us. I’m not really sure what the solution would be, maybe that our brain and body will go through an evolution that will solve the problem itself.

.

.

.

Discuss your songwriting and recording.

Usually, I’m the one that brings in the ideas for new songs, and usually it’s just a sketch. It’s kind of too much of everything, together with the band we’ll make it into a song. We really need each other to be able to write songs. We always record our music with Roel Blommers, he is our producer and makes us sound even better.
