Tell us how to refine a demo to a mastered song.

For me, the main difference from demos to finished songs is that I re-record the vocals in a quiet room and fix the errors in the takes, and then I add harmonies.

I mix the song to my liking and I send it to my friend @KayoMusiq and he masters it for me, he’s great.

.

.

.

Discuss the processing involved in creating a song.

I usually start with a sample or chords or an idea, then I record myself mumbling melodies and ideas, I write, re-record and then add drums and bass.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the themes of most of your songs.

It’s still quite early in my career and I don’t feel like I’ve found any themes or reoccurring patterns.

.

.

.

Tell us your greatest musical works up to date.

Greatest musical work to date is “Drunk in Love” by Beyonce, which I produced and won several Grammy Awards for.

.

.

.

Tell us those behind your music process.

It’s mostly me. I collaborate with different producers all the time, it varies from time to time, I mix my music and have my guy @kayomusiq do the mastering, he’s a very talented producer himself.

.

.

.

Tell us how you are handling the promotion of your music.

I do all my promotion online, Instagram, Facebook, etc. I have a new dancehall song with my guy @blaqpages coming next month and that will be my first taste of influencer marketing (dancers and Choreographers).

.

.

.

Tell us your future goals and how you aim to accomplish.

I would like to drop my debut album at the top of next year and go on tour.

.

.

.

Tell us what you think has changed in the music industry.

The industry has changed a lot due to streaming. Social media has also given the power to the creative and as artist you can reach your fans without needing a label.

.

.

.

Tell the greatest mistake to avoid while making a song.

In my opinion, overthinking is the biggest mistake in the creative process.

.

.

.

Tell us how you boost your performance.

Champagne, Champagne, and more Champagne – it just puts me in a more carefree mood without making me too drunk to work.

.

.

.

Explain the structure of the song.

This song “Moola” is 4 bar intro, 8 bar Hook, 8 bar verse, 4 bar pre,8 bar Hook, 8 bar verse, 4 bar pre, 8 bar Hook, then the outro.

.

.

.

Discuss how the instruments come together for a song.

There is no set way that the song comes together, but for me, I usually start with chords, then words and then do the drums and bass.

.

.

.

State your musical skills.

I’m a producer, artist, and writer. I don’t play any instruments, but I can engineer and mix the songs that I write.

.

.

.

Tell if you consider acting in a movie.

When the time is right, I would like to try it… I am interested in TV and Movies.

.

.

.

Tell us how you eliminate noise in your recordings.

I have a ball mic filter that basically is a ball made of foam that covers the entire mic except for the opening you record through.

.

.

.

List the name of artists you cherish most.

Sean Paul, DMX, Buju Banton, 50 Cent and a lot of classic African artists that I grew up listening to.

.

.

.

Tell us how you get inspiration.

I get inspired by sports, movies, and traveling.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

The song came about very spontaneously, I was in Las Vegas for the weekend and my last night there; my director @Potent__ suggested we shoot a video. I didn’t have any new songs, so I decided to make a song right there on the spot. I made the beat, recorded and shot the video for ‘Moola’ in one night.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist’s name and the title of the album.

My artist name “Soko7” comes from my birth name Brian Soko and 7 was my jersey number when I played soccer in high school.

.

.

.

Share your press release and review with us.

Moola is a song about my outlook and my worth ethic as a result of growing up with very little in a 3rd world country (Zimbabwe).

I speak about my tunnel vision, attitude about work and money, and how I don’t have time for anything if it doesn’t help me move forward financially. This is the mindset of a lot of 1st generation Immigrant families who came to this country to live the American Dream.

5 Seconds of Summer brings to light an eye-catching music video for the song entitled ‘Old Me.’

More!

“Old Me” is the introspective new single from 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS).

A falsetto-laced reflection on growth and forgiveness, the track is the latest release from 5SOS’s new album C A L M, due out via Polydor Records on March 27.

Speaking on the new music, lead vocalist Luke Hemmings said: “Old me carries a youthful spirit and follows the narrative of a young person’s life growing up, for better or for worse. Every decision we made, whether right or wrong, has led us to the men we are proud to be today.

We were thrown into the public eye at a young age and gratefully had each other at a confusing time. Sometimes it’s important we look back in order to appreciate the journey we’ve been on together.”

The band recently announced the North American leg of the No Shame 2020 Tour which will kick off with a trio of dates in Mexico. Ahead of arriving in the US, 5 Seconds Of Summer return to the UK for headline shows in May, including London’s The SSE Wembley Arena. Their eagerly anticipated UK tour will follow a one-off intimate gig at Kingston’s Pryzm, March 15th.

The only band (not vocal group) in chart history to see its first three studio albums enter the Billboard 200 at No. 1, 5SOS have sold more than 9.6 million equivalent album units and sold over two million concert tickets worldwide, with cumulative streams of their songs now surpassing seven billion.

In addition, they’ve earned several prestigious accolades over the years, including an American Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, eight MTV European Music Awards, five ARIA Awards, two APRA, and two MTV Video Music Awards.

Lyrics:

Shout out to the old me

And everything he showed me

Glad you didn’t listen when the world was trying to slow me

No one could control me

Left my lovers lonely

Had to fuck it up before I really got to know me

Never a night alone

Anywhere you wanna go

Woke up in the morning wearing someone else’s clothes

Pictures in my phone

With people I don’t know

Woke up in the morning how the hell’d I make it home

And they wondered how long I could keep it up

While I wondered if I’d ever, if I’d ever get enough

And I did some shit I never should have done

I would do over now, I’d do it over

Shout out to the old me

And everything you showed me

Glad you didn’t listen when the world was trying to slow me

No one could control me

Left my lovers lonely

Had to fuck it up before I really got to know me

All of the mistakes I made

Whatever the price I paid

Shout out to the old me

And everything he showed me

Had to fuck it up before I let you get to know me

Another round here we go

Going in blow for blow

Look into the mirror take the punches that I throw

I’m constantly reminded of all the compromises by the people from my past who have a hard time letting go

And they wondered how long I could keep it up

While I wondered if I’d ever if I’d ever get enough

And I did some shit I never should have done

I would do it over now, I’d do it over

Shout out to the old me

And everything you showed me

Glad you didn’t listen when the world was trying to slow me

No one could control me

Left my lovers lonely

Had to fuck it up before I really got to know me

All of the mistakes I made

Whatever the price I paid

Shout out to the old me

And everything he showed me

Had to fuck it up before I let you get to know me

Devil at my door

Got me knockin’ knockin’ knockin’ on the other side

Ashes on the floor

But I’m walkin’ walkin’ walkin’ outta here alive

Shout out to the old me

And everything you showed me

Glad you didn’t listen when the world was trying to slow me

No one could control me

Left my lovers lonely

Had to fuck it up before I really got to know me

All of the mistakes I made

Whatever the price I paid

Shout out to the old me

And everything he showed me

Had to fuck it up before I let you get to know me

Lyra is a London five-set Neo Soul-Electronic pop group combining epic and sweeping vocals, driving and rhythmic guitar lines, with a euphoric rhythmic sound.

Lyra have been hard at work shaping a style and groove that can’t be ignored.

In an age of recording artists, it is truly refreshing to find a band that is as good, if not better live than on the recording.

Lyra comprises Paige Ellis’s drumbeats with funk edge aplenty, George Price’s smooth baselines, James Skingle’s R+B licks to his heavy solos, Ejike Nnodi’s Jazzy Keys, and Jenna Naylor-Tymon’s soulful yet haunting vocals. Their neo-soul originals ooze an irresistibly euphoric rhythm.

.

.

.

Discuss your singing ability.

I would say I am an advanced singer having studied vocals at university for four years, and I am a singing teacher also which means I can teach singing to an advanced level.

.

.

.

Tell us the reason you want to sing.

I want to sing because it feeds my soul, I couldn’t imagine a day going by without singing; it would be miserable!

.

.

.

Tell us your most memorable live performance.

Probably the two gigs we did at Th Gladstone arms just because it was packed and the audience were amazing and so supportive!

.

.

.

Discuss how you build your song.

It changes every time. Most of the time though, James the guitarist will write a riff and then I will start to sing melodies over the top and then depending on how I’m feeling the song; the lyrics just come out.

.

.

.

Tell us how you impress your fans with your music.

With a great vibe/grove, strong solid performance, and a catchy melody.

.

.

.

Discuss the relevance of promotion to the music business.

This is massive! Also, a full-time job! Promotion is everything otherwise it doesn’t matter if you write the best songs if no one is going to hear them.

.

.

.

Tell us what you will do apart from music.

Promotion on social media, emailing different promotors, radio pluggers, organizing photo shoots, rehearsals, booking studios to record new songs, etc.

A lot goes into a band not just making the music.

.

.

.

List the names of the instruments you can play.

I personally can play the keyboard but not to a professional level so only use this when writing, and I’m the singer.

James plays Guitar, George Bass, EJ keys, Craig drums, and Manon backing vocals.

.

.

.

Tell us if you have any music background.

I have been a musician for years now, same as everyone else in the band.

I studied music/vocals at university for four years and before that studied in college and have always had singing lessons from a very young age.

.

.

.

Tell us the piece of advice you will give to a new artist on entering the music chart.

Never give up! Even though we have been fighting to make it in the music industry for years and still not in the top 40! We will never give up as the fight is part of the journey!

.

.

.

Elaborate on melody and rhythm.

This is ultimately the most important part of a song, most people don’t always take on board lyrics to a song but will always sing along to a melody or tap along to a catchy rhythm, however, this is always the hardest part as you don’t want it to sound too cheesy but at the same time not too ‘dull.’

.

.

.

Tell us your future goals.

Play at bigger better festivals like Glastonbury. Be played on bigger radio stations and to just make our band a full-time job and tour all over the world!

.

.

.

Share your music experience with us.

We have gigged pretty much all over London, sometimes to an audience of 7 and sometimes to a few hundred it’s all part of the journey.

We have had music played on BBC introducing which is exciting and this summer we will be branching out to a few venues/festivals in the UK.

.

.

.

Tell us the most difficult part of recording.

Trying to get the same feel/vibe as live. It’s always hard when you record your parts separately and are trying to make it sound as good.

.

.

.

Discuss the greatest mistake you have ever made in your music career.

Probably not taking it seriously, a few years ago and not putting as much effort in as if we had might have done and we may have made it by now! As time flies!

.

.

.

Tell us how you build up your composition.

We start with the guitar riff and then vocals, then we show the song to the rest of the band when the bass and drums come together and create a groove and then finally keys and backing vocals, obviously, the vocals can change and sometimes do once the groove is added as this does change the feel of the whole song.

.

.

.

Discuss the relevance of the lyrics to the listeners.

Not every listener will listen to the lyrics so deeply and will just sing along to a catchy melody, however a lot of people will listen to the lyrics so we do try and create lyrics that aren’t just personal to us but that everyone can relate to, a good saying I read once was to discuss senses as people will relate to this i.e. a certain smell that reminds you of something or the feel of something, etc.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

With this song, we wrote this about a subject that most people can relate to, so it was very easy to write.

It’s about relationships that you try and make work but for whatever reason don’t, and then with time you still think about them and wonder if they do too.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the album.

Band names are always hard! Once you think of a great name you google it and its already gone!

However, we came up with Lyra which is a constellation and that’s what we like to think of ourselves – a constellation of stars!

As for the title of the song S.T.A.Y, this stands for Still Think About You.

Aitch and AJ Tracey team up to unravel an amazing music video for the rap song entitled ‘Rain.’

These gifted rappers amaze with their extraordinary delivery of rap verses.

More!

Aitch and AJ Tracey have dropped their highly anticipated single “RAIN”, produced by Tay Keith (Drake, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott), and complete with an LA-filmed visual, directed by Arrad.

Two of the hottest names in UK Rap, and both in their twenties, Aitch and AJ Tracey are both hot off the back of their 2020 Brit Awards nominations, not forgetting the chart domination of “Taste” and “Ladbroke Grove”, respectively, last year. A formidable duo, “RAIN” makes an almighty statement of two young talents marking their territory, not just nationally, but globally.

The video, filmed in Los Angeles in February, sees Aitch, and AJ making it rain – both literally and metaphorically; Iced jewelry, dollar bills, cars, and energy.

With both rappers’ individual personalities shining through, their unique flows complement each other effortlessly over the addictive piano-heavy beat of 23-year-old Memphis Tennessee producer Tay Keith.

Only two weeks ago, Manchester’s finest Aitch returned with his first solo offering of the year which was dropped as a surprise release on his website, before crashing an hour later due to the influx of traffic. Those lucky enough to get through in the first 30 minutes got to see “MICE” first.

After releasing the single everywhere, a couple of hours later, “MICE” has accumulated over 2.5 Million streams, and broken straight into the UK Top 40.

Both “MICE” and “Rain” kick off a busy few months ahead for Aitch, who hot off the back of his extended (due to popular demand) sold-out UK and EU tour, is about to embark on an Australia and NZ tour, before a Summer jam-packed with festivals.

Last year, UK Rap star AJ Tracey released his eclectic self-titled debut album to critical acclaim. It was one of the biggest indie albums of 2019 and charted at number 3 in the UK Official Charts, now certified Gold with over 110,000 sales.

Not content with his sold-out Brixton Academy show in March, AJ topped off his biggest year to date with two sell-out shows at London’s 10,000 capacity Alexandra Palace, after the first sold out in just ten minutes.

AJ’s hit single ‘Ladbroke Grove’ is about to go double-platinum (over 1.1 million sales); undeniably providing the soundtrack to last summer, where it spent 12 weeks in the UK Top 10, as well as winning an NME Award for Best British Song.

The West London-hailing artist has continuously pushed the boundaries of UK rap, throughout his self-built journey.

More on Aitch:

Hailing from New Moston in North Manchester, 20-year-old MC Aitch is undoubtedly one of the biggest success stories of the last year.

Debut offering “Straight Rhymez” has now garnered well over 15 million views, being credited as the video that propelled Aitch into the limelight and released with the help of Northern Quarterz, his management team.

Based in his hometown of Manchester, NQ are helping to elevate artists in the North West of England to new heights.

Since then Aitch has gone on to make a solid mark on the scene nationally, his video for single “Taste (Make It Shake)” has accrued 23M views, and at one point he even featured on four songs in the UK Official Chart at one time. A keen collaborator and integral part of the UK Rap Scene, Aitch has seen huge success with his features on Young T and Bugsey “Strike Me A Pose” (Platinum), Russ x Tion Wayne “Kesha Becky (Remix)”, Ed Sheeran “Take Me Back To London” and his most recent with DigDat on “Ei8ht Mile.”

With his talents recognized across the board, Aitch is unstoppable. He is YouTube’s ‘Artist on The Rise’, has 1.5 million followers on Instagram alone and has support from the likes of Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, The Face, Clash, The Guardian, Line of Best Fit, and more.

More on AJ Tracey:

At just 25-years-old, nothing could have prepared AJ Tracey for his meteoric rise. The London-born artist has continuously pushed the boundaries of UK rap throughout his self-built journey.

Having released music since 2011, the Ladbroke Grove rapper saw a pivotal moment in 2016’s collaboration with Dave titled “Thiago Silva.” A year and a few singles later, AJ released his Secure the Bag! EP, which saw him catapulted into the UK official chart Top 20.

With a transatlantic nod of approval, AJ even appeared on tracks alongside Missy Elliott, A$AP Rocky, Rick Ross and more.

AJ’s 2018 summer single “Butterflies” ft. Not3s, saw him spend an incredible eight weeks in the UK Official top 20, and six weeks on the Radio 1 A-list (with over 85 million streams to date.)

AJ Tracey proved himself as one of the UK’s most dominant talents, winning the MTV Brand New title, two GRM Rated awards, and receiving multiple MOBO and AIM Awards nominations.

The 24-year-old even found himself placed in Forbes 30 under 30 for 2018 and named as one of British Vogue’s “Hottest Boys”, not to mention being placed on the BBC Sound Poll.

AJ has modelled in brand campaigns across the board from Nike to Timberland, Tottenham to the Official FIFA World Cup campaign alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. No mean feat, the rapper has enjoyed support from the likes of Pitchfork, The Fader, Dazed & Confused, GQ, Wonderland Magazine, i-D, NME, Noisey, The Independent, The Guardian and many more.

Lila Iké unravels a striking music video for the song entitled ‘Where I’m Coming From.’

She thrills with her compelling vocal and the level of musicality is high.

More!

Lila Iké sings about “Where I’m Coming From” as she returns to her childhood room and the town where she grew up in Jamaica.

Jamaica’s magnetic upstart Lila Iké unveils the visual for her new single “Where I’m Coming From.”

The track has been picking up heat since its debut on June 14th, 2019 via In.Digg.Nation Collective/Easy Star Records.

The video, directed by Nickii Kane, brings to life the fiery fervor heard in Lila’s versatile flow and in the rugged trap-inspired beat produced by Kasadie “Caspa” Jones.

From her first home in Kingston to her hometown in the countryside of Manchester, Lila takes the viewers on a vibrant walk through her stomping grounds in Jamaica, with friends and family along the way. Later, her crew – which includes a star-studded cast like dancehall artist Chi Ching Ching and GRAMMY-nominated reggae singer Protoje – turns the streets into a lively party.

“The song and music video for ‘Where I’m Coming From’ means a lot to me.

I finally had an opportunity to summarize my story thus far and involve the people who have been and still are, a part of my journey.

The video starts with a scene in Kingston, in the bedroom that I actually lived in when I first moved to the capital.

It then follows me as I take a road trip back to my hometown in Christiana, Manchester (Jamaica).

I’m greeted by all my family and friends, a sort of homecoming vibes.

The reception was overwhelming! It was a whole vibe!

I’m excited to share my journey and my people with the world,” a humble Lila Iké explains.

The 25-year-old is making waves outside of The Caribbean. With style and grace, she recently made an epic entrance in NYC on Protoje’s set at BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! concert.

Over 5000 fans roared to the sounds of her performance at the free show held at Prospect Park.

Throughout July and August, Lila Iké is slated to perform at some of reggae’s premier music festivals in Europe.

The future is bright for Lila. With only four solo songs in her discography, the In.Digg.Nation Collective artist, helmed from Protoje’s camp, is already penetrating the ears of reggae fans and garnering acclaim from music tastemakers and press alike (COMPLEX, The FADER, LargeUp, and Passion of The Weiss).

She leaves listeners curious to know, “Who’s that girl?”

Robinson unravels a fascinating music video for the song entitled ‘Watching You.’

She amazes with her symphonic vocals while the video is down to earth.

More!

New Zealand-born pop artist Robinson releases her debut EP ‘Watching You’ today, via Ministry of Sound Recordings.

The dreamy brand of heartbreak pop Robinson is known for resonates throughout the record.

‘Watching You’ was written mostly in London and produced by Sam de Jong.

Of the EP, Robinson says:

“All the songs speak of love and heartbreak, but I hope it will give people hope and comfort if they are going through the same thing. It means the world to me to have ‘Watching You’ in the arms of the world.”

Lead single ‘Watching You’ – an emotional and relatable track about watching someone you love move on – was written by Robinson together with Mike Needle and Dan Bryer.

On the meaning behind the single, Robinson says:

“It’s about the absolute discomfort and utter heartbreak that comes with watching the person you’re in love with, be in love with someone else and how confusing and conflicting that is to come to terms with those feelings, and trying to do anything to move past it in order to find happiness again.”

The EP follows on from Robinson’s previous singles ‘Medicine’, ‘Karma’ and the hugely successful ‘Nothing to Regret’, which currently sits at over 90 million streams on Spotify alone – as well as being certified platinum in New Zealand and double platinum in Australia.

Robinson also received two nominations at the 2019 New Zealand Vodafone Music Awards for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Single of the Year.

She was also revealed as one of Vevo DSCVR’s Ones to Watch 2019 as well as one of YouTube’s Artists to Watch 2019.

Last year saw Robinson play some great shows, including a sold-out headline set at London’s Queen of Hoxton and performance at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival.

She also supported some amazing artists on tour such as Hayley Kiyoko, Lany, Dean Lewis, and Dermot Kennedy.

On March 11th, Robinson will head on her first-ever headline tour in Australia/New Zealand – including a set at Homegrown Music Festival on Saturday 21st.

RAYE brings to light an amazing music video featuring Young Adz for the song entitled ‘All of My Love.’

‘All of My Love’ is a memorable song while the classic instrumentation brings the best out of the song.

The delivery of words is excellent, and the lyrics are easy to grab while the video is engaging.

The songwriting is outstanding, and the performance is dramatic.

More!

Croydon, South London-based R&B singer Rachel Keen (also known as RAYE) started her career at the age of ten, guided by her father and her guitar teacher.

Her interest in music quickly led to small charity gigs and bouts of singing at her local church.

By 2012, RAYE had enrolled in the prestigious BRIT school for music and singing, spending two years perfecting her craft, but she left in 2014 due to the limitations she was being taught and the desire to create her own rules.

The following year, RAYE released her debut EP, Welcome to the Winter. The lead single, “Hotbox,” was noticed by Olly Alexander (Years and Years) on Hype Machine; he got in touch with RAYE to discuss music and arranged a meeting with the A&R department at Polydor.

With major-label backing, RAYE kept busy in 2016, including co-writing her single “I, U, US” alongside Charli XCX, appearing as a guest vocalist on Jonas Blue’s “By Your Side” single, and releasing the SECOND EP.

She was back working with Charli XCX the following year, guesting on the singer’s tracks “Girls” and “Dreamer.” RAYE also delivered her own single, “The Line.”
