Christian Hasager – Amongst Wolves
For years I have been writing music, and for as long, I have had thoughts about doing a Singer-Songwriter project of my own, embracing the darker, more melancholic part of the genre. You’ll find lyrics, and music, written with the passion, songs, and poetry really deserves.
For the last 20 years, I have been a singer, guitarist, writer, etc. in the metal band, “End My Sorrow” but though I love the melodic-metal genre, I also have a soft spot for acoustic-like music soaked in melancholia. Give it a spin, and judge for yourself, how a metal guy fairs in this line of music… hmmm yes… what is my line of music? You’ll find some acoustic Singer/Songwriter music with ties to Folk, Acoustic Rock, Alternative; you might even spot a teaspoon of dark country.

Elaborate on the production of the song.
All music, lyrics, and production done by Christian Hasager.

Discuss your personality.
I have been playing music, mainly guitar since I was 8 years old, and have been writing my own stuff for nearly as long. I tend to write melancholic and at times quite sad music, but I will describe myself as a quite happy person, I have just always found it more appealing to write that type of music and you can say that it at times is my kind of therapy.

Discuss your existence as a musician.
As mentioned, I have been playing music for nearly 30 years. I have mostly been writing and playing Metal music, but I have always written and played other genres as well. Besides my solo project “Christian Hasager” I have been playing and writing in the Danish melodic metal band “End My Sorrow” for more than 20 years.
In 2016 we released a record via Spanish label “art gates records” called “of ghostly echoes” for which we got a lot of very fine reviews etc. in my solo project, I have released 4 singles so far, and I’m working on more songs as we speak.

Go into details on the changes in your life for choosing music as a career.
To me, music is a way of life, which defines who I am as a person. Will I be able to earn a living by it? Who knows? I just know, that I will continue no matter what, and with the same dedication, money or not. I can’t even say that I have made changes in my life “for” music, because music has always been one of the greatest parts of my life, and will continue to be so.

Tell us the benefits and drawbacks of choosing music as a career.
I mainly see benefits, because I’m lucky enough to be able to combine my work as a tattoo artist with my music-career. But drawback could be that it is quite hard to get spotted and get your music heard.

Tell us how you will manage fame as an established artist.
I’m not counting on being the new mainstream hope, but if I were to strike gold, I probably wouldn’t change that much.

Elaborate on the storyline of this song.
Lyrics to Amongst Wolves:
She wears her long hair down
She wears her finest dress
A mask with a joyful smile
Hides the truth, at least at best

Amongst wolves, she dances alone
Amongst wolves, she dances alone
Amongst wolves, she dances as if there’s no morning sun

Her wrists adorned with pearls
To hide where the blade went deep
She hides herself away
As she dances through the night

Amongst wolves, she dances alone
Amongst wolves, she dances alone
Amongst wolves she dances alone, daring them to bite

Hunger full eyes, all drawn towards her
As she enters the floor so fragile, radiant, and sad
They crave for her sins, as she’s torn from within, so torn
None of them cares what she’s really after, as long she’s there to be had even faster

Amongst the wolves, she’s broken
As she opened her eyes the following day,
She felt empty, alone, and betrayed
No one there to hold her close
No one there to make her feel safe

Amongst wolves, she danced alone
Amongst wolves, she danced alone
Amongst wolves, she danced as if there was no morning sun

In short, the song is about an “in many ways” broken girl seeking to be mended, but she is searching in the wrong places.

Let us know the greatest moment of your music career.
The greatest moment to me so far must have been when I released my first full-length album.

Discuss your experience pertaining to live performances, gigs, shows, and tours.
Have played a lot of gigs, with my band over the years, and hope to get to play some gigs with my solo-project.

State the names of the most important people that boosted your music career and how you met them.
It must be the bands I have shared stages with over the years. That has been the thing that has boosted my career the most.

Explain what you have in mind before considering music as a career.
When you’re young and playing music, you dream of becoming a big star, so in a way you startup with the biggest ambitions. 🙂

Discuss your experience in life.
Every person experiences ups and downs, I’m no exception. I have just tried to turn a lot of the ups and downs into inspiration.

Name the artists that have influenced the world.
Artists that have influenced the world: Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and a lot more artists that have influenced my world: the above mentioned and My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Katatonia…

Discuss your moment of rejection as a musician/artist and how you are able to cope and move on with your career.
It’s of cause always a bit hard to get rejected, but you learn to deal with it. Just have in mind that music taste is different from person to person. If you love what you create, the chance that a few others will like it is big; you just have to find them.

Tell us the most negative comment you have ever received.
A reviewer once called our band “without talent” it was the first review we got on our debut album. The wait on the next review felt like a lifetime, but nearly every review after that was fantastic. 🙂
