Goodnight Suzie is a hot new indie/pop band, featuring a husband and wife duo as lead vocalists. This music is contagious! The group was born out of the popular Seattle cover band “The Side Project”, and they are starting a new adventure with all new members!
Their debut album “Boombox” has up-tempo hand-clapping singalong pop tunes, and sweet emotional ballads.
The new band features a duo to 8-piece, depending on the venue, with electric guitar, bass, percussion, violin, ukulele, and even a rocking organ organist/piano player.
Suzie and Ben say that artists such as Portugal. The Man, Colbie Caillat, Brandi Carlile, Benjamin Clementine, and Amos Lee were a few of their influences as they developed this new sound and style.
The two have had their music featured on shows such as “Dancing with The Stars” and have had their music broadcast in Starbucks locations across the U.S.
Together, they’ve performed thousands of concerts throughout the Pacific NW and beyond, and they are excited to bring you this new sound.
They have shared the stage with artists such as Vicci Martinez, Chasing Jane, Dulcinea Renee, Dax Johnson, The Beatnix, Gypsy Soul, and Grammy award winner Eric Tingstad.
Their debut album, Boombox, released on March 30, 2019.

Discuss your recording experience with your producer.
Two Words!
Pre-Production. This saved us time and money
We all got together after the songs were mainly finished in a living room to take time to complete the song, get the beats per min and have everything ready to go by the time we reached the studio. Chelsi Lee Marie was also a great vocal coach and energy worker for each song during the recording process.

Discuss what comes first and last while creating a song.
Getting the idea from the sky (usually in the shower) – recording that rough idea on the iPhone (super important) and lastly sending to get it mastered.

Tell us the piece of advice you will give to a new artist.
Stay true and treat it like a business. If you do not, then you won’t survive. Stay close to your faith. This is the only way we have a true compass.
Try everything and find the joy in everything you try.
Tons of character get built while being venerable when sometimes it would appear that no-one cares. The biggest advice is finding JOY always.

Discuss your worse experience in the music business.
Having to be a cover band to survive is tough but I have always said, and I coin the phrase. “I’d rather sing a song than serve a plate” nothing wrong with seeing a plate I’ve done it but when you have a passion and gift it beats out the latter.
Our worst experiences have been the bad judgment of overplaying, spreading ourselves too thin, and letting us be pulled by people that just wanted us to be the party.
The whole feast and famine are a tough thing to juggle. Now at 38 years old, I’m finally learning to take care of myself without the guilt. Just say no if you need the rest. they will be fine without you! The world still goes on. 🙂

Tell us how you deal with rejection.
Poorly at first! Then after many times you just learn they are not for you and make room for the ones that are. I always tell myself rejection is God’s protection.

Tell us what you are doing to impact the people around you.
From what I have seen, we have inspired others to take leaps of faith of their own by being true to what we love and by being free. We live full time out of our truck and trailer and are free to go where we are rated to play music. We are going on year 4 this month! We go out of our way to make people’s nights by singing them a special song and getting to know them.

Tell us the music that makes you happy.
Creative music makes us happy. We like the unusual chord changes and admire unique artists.
Benjamin Clementine, Billie Eilish is really interesting right now and we actually just watched for the first time ever “A hard day’s Night” movie by the Beatles. I’m a big Karen Carpenter fan, Love Eva Cassidy. We are big fans of Amos Lee, Tori Amos, Chris Stapleton, Feist.

Tell us how you make instrumentation to your song.
Strum through the chords/piano or guitar first then pick out some lead lines to add melodies later.

Tell us how you feel when you sing, and your fans sing along to your song.
Well, sometimes I get nervous that I’ll forget a lyric that we wrote, and they won’t. Of course, it’s the greatest feeling of being known.

Tell us the goals you aim to achieve when creating a song.
Right now, it’s the heart sometimes it’s the singalong factor but to have both of those in one song is the ultimate song for sure.

Tell us your approach to writing.
It’s the hardest thing to do on the discipline side. I put it on our calendar and to-do list. Sometimes it comes in a spontaneous way but mostly we make ourselves have sessions and lately we have been writing with Grammy Winner Eric Tingstad. Helps to have a 3rd person in addition to Ben and me since we are married 14 years and life can blur in the days

Tell us how you plan to develop a unique music style.
Keep coming up with fresh ideas. My latest idea is to grab a quartet and beatboxer for a song and see what happens.

Tell us how to record a song.
We left this part up to our producer and engineer.

Tell us if you are collaborating with other songwriters or you write alone.
As mentioned before yes on collabs and sometimes alone. 🙂

Discuss your experience with fans.
They have become like family. Their support over the years is the main reason we can keep going. It’s a precious special relationship that has a fate and manifestation quality that only music can do.

Tell us what you know about booking gigs and shows.
I started out as our booker and I enjoy it, so I’ve been good at it, however, I really love that we have multiple other agents that help fill the calendar through the year and am more than happy to pay the 10-15% because I know the work that goes in. When we are super busy, I can usually pass it along and if we are slower, I take it on myself as part of the day job.

Tell us if you consider a song placement in TV or Film.
Heck yes!!! and we are working right now with Jon Delange of actually today shopping to cable television the album Boombox. I have had a cover song of ours on Dancing with The Stars and SYTYCD. So, I know the power of that media. We have also recently been to the Durango Song group learning about licensing and publishing.

Elaborate on the song.
‘Spinning Around’ is about dreaming but being stuck. Distractions were keeping us away from our joy. New awakenings on the road of #Trailerlife have opened the doors along with life coaching and higher power-seeking.

Elaborate on your artist’s name and the title of the album.
We have played 200 shows (mainly cover shows) a year for over a decade. At the end of the night, fans would say “It was a good night Suzie” I would struggle with going to bed and being wound up having wine and so then it was a different tone of “goodnight Suzie”
It’s a homage to a bit of the Jekyll and Hyde in us all 🙂
