Go into detail on why you decide to choose music as a career.
It’s the only thing that we are passionate enough to keep working at. We never get tired of making music.
Brief us the feedback you are getting from fans concerning your music.
Jesse – They always say that they like the vibe.
Samson– Anytime someone hears one of our songs they say, “you guys are going to be big!” So, I guess it’s good feedback.
Discuss the relevance of social networking to music.
Samson– It’s a lot of work but super important. I try to be as consistent as time allows.
Brief us about the recording of this song.
Samson– The song was recorded by Jesse on his laptop. He was in Sacramento CA and I was in Seattle WA at that time. He emailed me the project and I mixed it a couple of times. But it wasn’t until 2 years later, when I took another stab at mixing it, that we got it right.
Tell us the story behind the song.
Jesse– I was struggling with finding work and I started thinking of what it would be like to be someone else.
State your area of specialization in music.
Jesse– Writing catchy songs.
Samson– I would say working with a DAW.
Tell us how long it takes to finish a song from the start.
It depends on the song. Some can be written in minutes, and shortly after it can take months or even years like it did with “Day Dreamz”. I think timing and destiny have a lot to do with it.
Go into detail on how you develop your lyrics and melody.
Some songs we right based on a single line and melody. Sometimes we start with the instrumental and build the lyrics and melody off of that.
Discuss music generally in full detail.
Jesse– It’s my favorite form of human expression. I think music can make you feel anything at any time.
Samson– Music is my main outlet. It is how I am able to express my emotions.
State your five favorite genres of music.
A lot of our favorite music is from older Mexican artists such as Pedro Infante and Antonio Aguilar. I think because that’s the first music we were ever exposed to.
Jesse– I like reggae because of the soul and emotion attached to it.
Samson– I gravitate to Rock, I think because of the angst and protest to the conventional way of doing things.
We like Hip Hop because of the rhythmic beats.
We like epic Pop hits.
Rockabilly and old-time country, maybe because of the similarities to Ranchera Music.
Discuss your rehearsal.
We usually practice on our own before rehearsal, that way we don’t waste any time.
State your favorite musical instruments.
Jesse– Bass, because it was the first instrument I learned and wrote my first songs with.
Samson– For me it’s guitar, it’s what I know and how I write songs.
Describe the chemistry between you and your fans during a live performance.
Samson– I think there’s a lot of confusion at first. The crowd doesn’t expect the commercial potential in our songs. A song or two into our set I feel like we’ve gained fans for life.
Jesse– They always say they feel like they’re listening to the radio when they hear us play.
Discuss your personality in full detail.
Jesse– Loud and goofy. Approachable and easy-going.
Samson– I’m a very serious dry person unless I’m performing on stage or around the family that’s close to me.
Tell us about your musical background.
Our maternal grandfather was a multi-instrumentalist who played Spanish folk songs with his brothers. Our Dad was an aspiring Ranchera singer, who just never had the chance to pursue his dreams full time. And an uncle of ours founded and owned a Rap label in the 90s here in Sacramento.
List your musical work.
In 2016 we released the “Day Dreamz” EP with some rough demos. We pushed to some college radio stations and it was added to their playlists. We were operating long distances so it was hard to promote it. Now we’re releasing a new mix of “Day Dreamz” as a single with a B side this mid-February and shortly after we’ll release another single with a B side. We’re hoping to have our EP, “Year Of The Dog” out by mid-March.

Share your memorable experiences with us.
We won a songwriting contest and recorded our next single “Hanging On A Noose” at state-of-the-art Reamp Studios in Southern California. We’ve been trying things a little differently and we get a magical feeling when we make an awesome song.
Tell us the good and bad side of mankind you know.
We have collaborated with many artists and some are very genuine and talented but the chemistry is just not there. Those are my better experiences. And some just are selfish and instead of working together and helping each other as agreed upon at the start of our relationship, they try to manipulate and use our talents for their own project.
State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.
Guerrilla Dogs, we got guerrilla being unconventional. We record with any equipment at hand. Dogs because we’re from the urban ghetto of Sacramento. We’re looked down upon because of our class.
State the title of the song and the meaning.
Jesse– “Day Dreamz” because it’s what I was doing when I wrote the song.
State the title of the album and the reason for picking the title.
“Year Of The Dog”
We chose this title because we feel that this is finally our time. And being Guerrilla Dogs we decided to make it a point not to hold back this year and claim it as our year.
