Hack the Fool is an alternative rock band from Istanbul, formed when local strangers; Mert Avcı, Sinan Kutluay, and Berk Çavdar decided to create music from a different perspective.
Although the 90’s alternative bands are fundamental influences, the band strives to break the mold by creating dynamically expanding songs, keeping an open mind for experimenting, and exploring new sounds with each new song.
The band is not only responsible for the music, but they also create the visuals and concept arts such as the album cover art and the music videos themselves.
They regard the conceptual artwork and the music as a whole endeavor.
Hack the Fool recently released their debut album “The Fool” under Tantana Records label.

Discuss your recording experience with your producer.
We don’t actually have a producer. We financed the album on our own but Memet Incili who we recorded the album with and mixed it has been a mentor for us and taught us a lot professionally. Working with him made us feel more confident.

Discuss what comes first and last while creating a song.
Expressing ourselves is the primary concern for us in the songwriting process.
We always create a raw foundation for songs without overthinking.
Then, comes the partition modifications and sound preferences.

Tell us the piece of advice you will give to a young artist.
We’re young artists ourselves and still have a lot to learn.
But if you mean even younger amateur musicians our advice would be: believe in yourself, know yourself and do it yourself.

Discuss your worse experience in the music business.
The “music business” itself we’d say is a pretty bad experience. Especially at times when it’s all about business and there’s no room for creativity, energies, or emotions.
It gets pretty disgusting. You start to hate what you created and worked so hard on for weeks because you’re trying to sell it. The people on the business side of things make you feel small and insignificant.

Tell us how you deal with rejection.
We had no problems with rejection but we really hated being stalled.

Tell us what you are doing to impact people around you.
Not sure there’s a huge impact at the moment but the fact that we pursue “rock” music while ‘trap and rap’ is exploding everywhere might influence some people somewhere.

Tell us the music that makes you happy.
All kinds of bossa nova jazz and reggae metal.

Tell us how you feel when you sing and your fans sing along to your song.
I guess that happened just once at a concert when people sang almost… with us and it gave us goosebumps.

Tell us if you consider song placement in TV or Film.
We would be glad if someone wants to use our music in their visual art.

Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the album.
The Fool originates from the tarot card, the fool. The fool card depicts a young man walking towards a cliff carelessly. The bundle on his back represents everything he has. Young man represents naiveté and honesty; he’s ready to venture beyond boundaries in pursuit of his dreams. He has no regard for rules and recklessly follows his own way, which makes him a fool in the eyes of society.
In Hack The Fool’s recreation of the fool, the TV symbolizes the cliff, while the cliff symbolizes dreams, fake fame, and pretending. The fool character itself is shown naked with nothing but a backpack and he is ready…
The Fool, just like the band, isn’t afraid to exist in this fake world and strives to reflect his unique and original understanding of life.
