Discuss your personality.
I’m an introspective guy who probably is far too hard on himself.

Brief us about you as a musician.
I’ve been playing music for a long time now. I really enjoy writing music and pushing myself.

Go into details on what has changed in your life for choosing music as a career.
I’ve basically alienated a lot of my friends, and past relationships by being completely self-consumed by my own ego and life experiences. I can play more stuff on guitar though, however, I haven’t become the cliché campfire guy, thank the lord.

Tell us the benefits and drawbacks of choosing music as a career.
Benefits – I’m able to confidently lead my family through happy birthday.
Drawbacks – I’m a lot more of a hermit than I used to be. I also feel like I hold onto bad experiences. I don’t know if I can blame all of my cringey actions on that though. I do try.

Elaborate on the storyline of this song.
“Lazy” is about something really cringey I did when I was younger. I thought it was a really good topic to write about because it’s really not unique to me, but no one is ever self-deprecating enough to put it into song.

Let us know the greatest moment of your music career.
I wrote a song recently that had to do with something personal with my mother and she was pretty moved by it. It’s definitely one of those moments that I’ll never forget because I perfectly distilled the experience into a story.

Discuss your experience pertaining to live performances, gigs, shows, and tours.
I’ve only played a couple of gigs as Hobart Curtis. I’ve played multiple in previous bands, and choirs. I never get nervous, which has been a negative thing as well as a positive. I’ve been lucky to play with some amazing musicians in my career, for sure.

Tell us how you interact with your fans.
I feel like the people who are fans of my music acknowledge how honest I am with my lyrics. I’m more than happy to tell a story exactly how it is, regardless of whether it makes me look good or bad. That’s what gets me going.

Tell us what you will like to change if you have the chance to turn back the hands of time.
I wish I got into singing when I was way younger.

Tell us the most important people that have boosted your music career and how you met them.
All the people at Clutch have helped me heaps. As well as the people such as Acid Stag and Triple J unearthed.

Brief us on what you have in mind before considering music as a career.
Be prepared for loads of rejection and doubting yourself. Make sure you’re focusing on making music for yourself.

Discuss your good and bad experience in life.
Good – Getting to make some beautiful art that people enjoy.
Bad – Not being able to always do this and sometimes having to persevere through hard times.

Name the artists that have influenced the world.
The Beatles, INXS, Coltrane.

Tell us about your moment of rejection as a musician and how you are able to cope and move on.
Happens all the time. Touched on it before. I can’t control what others think. All I can do is focus on my skills and make sure I love what I’m making.

Tell us the most negative comment you have ever received about your music.
Some dude said he didn’t really believe what I was saying. Which sort of doesn’t make any sense to me, but it annoyed me; how much effect a comment like that would have on me.

Tell us how to become a famous artist.
Never give up. Get good at networking. Be super talented.

Tell us how you plan to make an impact on society.
Probably do more than just make music if I’m honest. I just want to make some money and get into some dope VIP lounges; I’m not here to change the world.
However, I would say, think globally and act locally, and treat people with respect that you come across in all forms of your life.

Elaborate on the recording process of this song.
“Lazy” was recorded about 1 year and a half ago by myself and Nick Kirk. The mix was finalized recently and the mastering process was done in-house.
