The Linda Project was created, to compose music for flying videos or presenting exciting flying situations, pilots, planes, via my music.
The first single, ‘Chasing Dreams’ was released in the spring of 2020, and the music producer is Ábel Mihalik. Linda Horvath composes lyrics and songs.
The duo created 12 songs together during the pandemic; all songs will be released with an Album in 2021, titled Trip to Myself.
During the music video productions, Linda joined the Altus Ultra light team – plane presented in Snowflake’s music video; joining UL competitions as navigator. Near the musical project, Linda will participate in World Record attempts as well with this small airplane.
The Singer/Songwriter had two albums in 2010-2011 with the Progressive Rock band called Yesterdays and stopped releasing music for ten years until she met Ábel, her music producer in 2020.

LYRICS:

City Lights

How could I know, what should I say?
Just to make you feel more comfortable around
How could I know oh from beginning?
What makes you feel alive?

In the city lights, city lights
Let’s get drunk
Let’s get drunk
In the city lights
Tonight

There is a noise
And you have no choice
Let’s jump on the tram
And never turn around
There is a place
That only we know
Hides all the secrets of your smiles

In the city lights, city lights
Let’s get drunk
Let’s get drunk
In the city lights
In the dark
City lights, city lights
At the bank of the river
At the bank of the river
In city lights tonight

If you feel lost, open your eyes
You are not alone
You just need to look around.
After sunrise, the lights will be turned off
See you here
Tomorrow night

In the city lights
City lights
Let’s get drunk
Let’s get drunk
In the city lights
Tonight
City lights, city lights
Let’s get drunk
Let’s get drunk
At the bank of the river
Tonight

In the dark
When there is no light
Touch me and love me
Love me

Like City lights
I glow tonight
In your arms
In your arms

Pass me the bottle
I want to feel the night
Let’s push the throttle
Just hold me tight
Lights will be turned off, soon from now
I want to feel you anyhow

Discuss your music career.
I almost gave up on my music career, however, I find myself anxious before sleep for years, feeling, that something is missing from my life.
I had literally everything I could wish for, but I was still feeling, that my life is empty, even with all these exciting flying adventures I had in the last nine years. I missed music a lot. After my second album with Yesterdays’ s band, I stopped singing on a professional level, I had no concerts, I was trying to form bands, but I failed, then I gave up.
At the beginning of 2020, I started to attend music classes, piano lessons, joined a school for vocal coaching, and met Ábel, my music producer, who motivated me, and pushed me to perform the best I can as a singer. 2020 and 2021 are really productive and creative periods; we finished the bonus track of my upcoming album a few days ago.
As a kid I was participating in music competitions, as a folk singer, I was also singing in the church choir, but somehow in the last 9 to10 years, I got a bit distanced from this path. Nowadays I feel mentally and emotionally healed, I find music again.

Explain what has motivated you so far in your music career.
In my songs, I can communicate easily what I have to tell. When we started this project, I said, I don’t care how many people will listen to my songs; I want to make music because it makes me happy. I feel good doing this and it is therapeutic. Working on this project helped me to know myself and my limits better, also opened exciting doors in aviation as the theme of this album is presenting flights, interesting planes, or pilots.
Feeling great from making music gives me lots of energy and strength for everything else I am doing, on the other hand, by making music I am learning every day a lot about music, as I have the chance to work with amazing musicians and people.

Discuss your experience as a musical artist.
I had my last concert with a band in front of a crowd like nine years ago. I can’t forget that feeling, I miss it, but I am afraid of it as well. I feel a bit unprepared to be on a stage. However, I miss it a lot. It feels like a roller coaster in the amusement park. You know, it will be awesome, but you are still a bit afraid to give it a go. I know that my will of having concerts again is stronger than my doubts.
Singing is a different story, I feel really confident as a singer, and I love to sing and write my lyrics. I loved to record the songs for the Linda album, and I really enjoyed learning my songs on the piano and play/sing. I learned a lot about making vocals; I hope I will have the chance to sing back-vocals for others too.
I feel really little as a musical artist, and there are so-so many things that I’d love to learn about music, singing.
As a teenager, my primary job was to sing and being the voice for radio commercials. I miss those days; however, I am also happy, that I have another profession too.

Tell us the biggest mistake you have ever made in your music career.
My biggest mistake was not making music for such a long time. I feel that I wasted a lot of time and I was looking for something that I couldn’t define, meanwhile that something was all the time in front of me, in me…

Discuss the story behind the song.
We recorded this single in Budapest – so we are from Budapest, the song is inspired by the nightlife of Budapest…
Ádám Meggyes – trumpet
Gergő Kováts – saxophone
Krisztián Csapó – trombone Ábel Mihalik – guitars, drums, bass, synth
Song was written by Linda Horváth and Ábel Mihalik
Lyrics – Linda Horváth
Musical Production: Ábel Mihalik
The vocals were recorded at home, the instruments in a rehearsals room. It’s not easy to pull a project like this together, however, it is more exciting. 🙂 We learned, that instead of spending days in the studios, we could actually make pretty cool recordings at home too! – Sorry neighbors.
The lyrics were inspired by what I love the most about Budapest. Sitting outside during the night, and having some drinks, dating, meeting people, flying above the city, and the amazing lights of the city center. We wanted to release this song, once the lockdown was getting harder and harder here for us, and our friends. We were not able to go out after 8:00 in the evening, so we wanted to bring up some good memories and cheer up our listeners. Actually, the unreleased music video will capture some amazing surprises about the city itself, in the lockdown, at night.

Tell us how to fund a music project.
I don’t know. I never had any sponsors or financial supporters for my music, or for this project. I am having another profession, I work as an Agile Coach for innovation projects in automotive, and I am investing my own funds to this project. I know artists are having a hard time due to the pandemic. I read somewhere that online streaming, and shows, copyrights can generate some revenues, but this project is not having significant streams, so I am not the right person to answer this.

Discuss your opinion on the safety of fans during shows and live performances.
I am not a safety expert, however as a student, I was working at music festivals, at administration, so I will answer from 2 points of view. The first one is a general concert, without the pandemic, and COVID situation. Crowds can be dangerous if the experienced crew does not support concerts in a professional way, and that’s super important. Having lots of people in one place, venues take a lot of responsibility. So, it is important to confiscate sharp objects, weapons, etc.
On the other hand, organizers must be prepared, and skilled, the infrastructure must be feasible to serve the participants in a safe way: electricity, fresh air, and fire protection are extremely important. The saddest example I know, and I would mention is the Colectiv Nightclub Fire in Bucharest from 2015 October. It seemed that the fire was caused by illegal indoor usage of outdoor pyrotechnics, which killed 64 people, and injured 146… I think the locations of concerts must be checked and prepared to welcome people in safety.
The pandemic is making things one level harder. There are lots of questions, still.
In Hungary, these days, authorities announced, that concerts could be organized. I am not sure how safe is to be in crowds, I miss going to concerts, and listening to live music, but I am a bit afraid too. For sure I try to keep a safe distance from crowds for a while. It might be a good idea to somehow let people join the concerts with negative COVID tests, or this proof of vaccination maybe. It is hard to tell what the best and safest solutions are. We will see in a few months if the actual approach makes sense or not. I hope it does because the industry can’t survive one more year without concerts.

Tell us the greatest piece of advice someone has given you as an artist.
Practice more.

Tell us what you will improve or change in your music.
I will practice more on instruments and on my next album I will play more on instruments too, for sure. I am already attending music classes. I am trying to learn as much as possible.

List your best artists.
Linda always loved Lady Gaga and Tony Benett songs, so for her in City Lights, this was a great influence for sure. We also love: Robert Glasper, Jamiroquai, Cory Wong, Tower of Power, Nils Landgren… AAAND Frank Zappa.

Tell us the greatest problem you think is facing society and the solution.
Our greatest problem is envy, malice, and criticism on social platforms. I feel people are too rude on social media, writing hateful things from their armchairs from home, without actually making half as much effort, or working on something as much as the people they are commenting on. This can be extremely harmful, especially for teenagers or people with low self-esteem.
So, I think one of our greatest problems is one of the most brilliant tools too of our society: social media. Unfortunately, I don’t know what is the solution for this.

Discuss your songwriting and recording.
The whole album, this single too was recorded at home, during the pandemic. The lyrics and the melody of some of the songs were written earlier before I met Ábel, but the instrumentals, and then the recordings were done mostly at home. The brass was recorded in the rehearsals room, in Budapest, but all the singing parts were recorded in our homes.
As English is not my native language, I always asked someone who is a native speaker to check if everything is grammatically correct in my lyrics, before we recorded the vocals.
For most of the songs, all instruments are played by Ábel, my producer. For City Lights, we have three guests: Ádám Meggyes – trumpet, Gergő Kováts – saxophone, and Krisztián Csapó – trombone.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.
This album is about finding and accepting and learning to love myself, finding my way back to music, so I decided to use my real name, Linda, changing the “i” to the shape of the plane I am flying with this day at the competitions. This plane and our music make me really happy and together are LINDA.

State the title of the song and the meaning.
Budapest, the city we are from, is amazing at night. At the time we made this song, it was forbidden to go outside during the night, and we were not able to see the city lights. I wanted to create something to cheer up the people, to have nostalgia about the great old days, when we were simply having some nice wine at the bank of the Danube, or at the Gellért Hill in summer evenings, watching the lights.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.
Trip to Myself will be the name of my new album. I remember coming home after we recoded the third song together with Ábel. It was My Time, and he suggested making the whole album together. I walked 8 km home from his place, and during that walk, I counted all my song ideas I had already drafted at home, and I was thinking over what I really want, how my life would be again with music. I knew by then, that this will change everything. Since we’re making music together, all my sleeping problems and anxieties disappeared. I was sure, that this project will be like a trip, and I started to accept and love myself more and more as we progressed with the album. In my life, I never put myself as a priority before, and for the first time ever, my mental health, and my happiness are the most important in my life. The road to being able to do this was not easy, it was like a trip to myself. (Changed my flat, changed my workplace, changed my lifestyle, I feel like I arrived finally “home”, to myself.)
