Love Stallion – Trans Am
Inspired by the “big rock” sound of the 1970s and ’80s, rock stars like David Lee Roth and Freddie Mercury, and dynamic bands like Van Halen, Kiss, and Def Leppard, Love Stallion is charging onto the music scene with original glamorous hard rock.
The band’s high-energy live performances, flamboyant wardrobes of sequins, spandex, and leather, and their signature “Sexy Disco Legs” have placed Love Stallion in the spotlight among Denver’s hottest tickets. Now, Aaron Hart (vocals) and Crayton Huntly (aka Rob McLemore, guitars), along with Aero X (aka Aero Marquez, bass), have released their debut album, Unforgettable Ride. Recorded at Colorado Sound Studios with Emmy Award Winner and Certified Gold Album producer, Steve Avedis (Tony Bennett, NSYNC), “Unforgettable Ride” is already garnering critical praise from some of music’s top-ranked sites.

Share your life story with us.
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and always loved music. I started piano at 5 years old, and in middle school, picked up guitar and drums too. I gravitated towards the melodic pop of the Beach Boys and Michael Jackson, and the rock of Van Halen and Queen. Rob grew up in L.A., immersed in the scene of stadium rock, Hollywood glam, and the Sunset Strip. After meeting in Denver in ‘09, we quickly discovered our tight bond of friendship and our love of a certain brand of music, and soon after, we began playing in projects together. In fall 2013, we decided to create our very own dream project, now known as Love Stallion.

List the names of those that have supported you so far in your music career and use this opportunity to thank them.
Huge thank-yous to so many people!  First, we want to thank our fans, friends, and family for supporting us over the years.  Special thank-yous to our vocal coaches Dr. Scott Martin, Kate Emerich, and Ona Reed; and our producer Steve Avedis. You are all like family, and we couldn’t have made this album without you!

Narrate your experience while recording in the studio or while touring.
Recording in the studio is its own beast. It is incredibly rewarding to create the perfect versions of the songs as we envision them in our heads. But, the hard part is translating the live energy and raw performance into the studio, AND making sure it is played the best it can be. This becomes a battle of the left brain and right brain! Still, even though it is an intensely emotional process, it is so satisfying to emerge from the studio not only as a better writer and player but with our own piece of recorded history.

Discuss your songwriting.
Writing the songs for “Unforgettable Ride” has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives.  Having been friends for years and played in a couple of projects together, Rob and I discovered our shared passion for rock and roll and its influences.  For much of the album, Rob would start us off with a riff, and I would add the melody. We both were heavily involved in each other’s process, sending the instrumentation, arrangements, melodies, and lyrics back and forth a thousand times. We spent an immense amount of time on these songs to ensure we were both 100% happy with the feel of every part of each one.

Elaborate on your future projects.
We are currently planning our next music video, while gearing up to begin playing shows this fall all around Colorado, including a headliner show at Globe Hall here in Denver on Saturday, October 13th.   We are also busy writing and planning some small tours for summer 2019.  We hope to see you all on the road!

Tell us what you are doing to increase your fan base.
Right now, we are spreading the word about our album by doing interviews, making appearances, and playing shows.  We are also working with Michael Stover at MTS Management Group who is doing a great job getting our music out in front of people. But, the most effective way we have found has been sharing 1-on-1 with people, sharing what we are up to, and inviting them to join in on the fun.

Tell us that point in time you wanted to give up on your music career.
Back in 2013, I had a solo pop/rock project. While we performed as a band, it felt more like a one-man-show.  I had serious writer’s block and was having a hard time feeling inspired. Thankfully, a few months later, my friend Pyper invited me last-minute to a Prince show at the Ogden Theater here in Denver. Needless to say, my life was changed that night, watching one of music’s most talented artists rip the best rock set I had ever seen.  That night set the stage for the future Love Stallion.

Go into detail on how you make your instrumentation or melody.
We start writing many of our songs by matching the feel of a song title to a guitar riff. It’s so important that the energy and vibe of the music matches the theme of the lyrical story. We also find that many of the best vocal melodies and hooks are buried right there in the music, so the experience is more about uncovering the hidden gems, rather than creating out of thin air.

Tell us your complete understanding of music licensing.
My understanding is that it’s complicated!  We do know the importance of surrounding ourselves with a team of experts who can advise us. We do think it’s essential for bands to understand the basics though, like registering copyrights and publishing, and being sure to read and understand every contract.

Tell us your favorite genre of music.
Definitely rock and roll!  Our love is deep especially for the classic rock of the 70s and 80s.

Tell us the theme of most of your songs.
Most of our songs revolve around the tension of love, from fun and excitement to thick nostalgia and heartbreak.

Elaborate on this song.
Trans Am is an homage to the Smokey and The Bandit 1978 Pontiac Trans Am, coupled with the double entendre of a car and a girl, also similar to Van Halen’s Panama. It’s a high energy rocker, with a long instrumental interlude, making you feel like you’re at a big throwback showdown car race scene. RIP Burt!

Discuss digital distribution and streaming.
We rely on CD Baby for most of our distribution. They truly have a heart for the indie artist, and have created relationships all around the world to simplify the process, making it easy for anyone to spread their music on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, and just about anywhere. The cool part is that they track all of the plays, so we get to see that fans worldwide are still listening to our music!

Tell us numerous ways that artists can boost their revenue.
The most important thing is writing good material and having a good performance. This is the foundation for connecting with and engaging your audience to buy your music, concert tickets, and merchandise. Make sure you have an updated website, constant new content on social media, and create merch to sell.

Tell us your opinion on self-training and enrolling in an educational institution to study music.
In the music business, like anything, you have to be a lifelong learner and always disciplined to practice and develop your craft. It’s so important to have a support group and good coaches to give you perspective, share their experiences, and help you continually grow.

Go on at length on what it takes to write a hit song.
So much goes into writing good music! For starters, you need to constantly spend time creating and keeping a record of all of your music and lyric ideas. This consistent space helps you best access your emotions while also keeping your radar up for any inspiration as you go about your day. It is also important to listen not just to your own genre but draw from outside influences and styles to create your own personal stamp. Feel what you are writing so you can be sure that energy is accessible to future listeners.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.
Love Stallion: we are a band of sexy horsemen!

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.
“Unforgettable Ride” is not just another double entendre, but an honest description of the last 5 years of the band’s history. There have been many struggles and challenges, but also the most beautiful moments and experiences of our lives we will never forget; writing performing, and sharing our music with our families, friends, and fans. It has truly been unforgettable!
