Tell us how to refine a demo to a mastered song.
I hired a producer and a commercial music studio.
Discuss the processing involved in creating a song.
Sometimes I start with lyrics and find the music, sometimes I start with a chord progression and find the words.
Elaborate on the themes of most of your songs.
In People Like Us, there is a lot of irony, unintended consequences, self-delusion, and a touch of futility.
Tell us your greatest musical works up to date.
‘People Like Us’ is my first album and only published music.
Tell us those behind your music process.
I work alone and perform occasionally, solo.
Tell us your future goals and how you aim to accomplish them.
To continue working as an author and songwriter, and the dream to see ‘People Like Us’ produced as a stage play.
Tell us what you think has changed in the music industry.
The music itself: instrumentation, including electronic, the wide variety of lyrical and musical themes, the uncensored market.
The availability of music (historical and contemporary) is perhaps the most important development. When I was a kid, you had to buy vinyl or hope you can find it on the radio, and a golden oldie was two years old. Today, everything is available within a few clicks … including multimedia content – Amazing.
Tell the greatest mistake to avoid while making a song.
To try to do too much in one song – Present a clearly articulated theme and be direct. If it becomes overly complicated, you probably have two songs.
Tell us how you boost your performance.
Learn to play and sing better.
Discuss how the instruments come together for a song.
The musicians come together … the instruments are just a tool.
State your musical skills.
Tell us if you consider acting in a movie.
Of course – I would love to play a villain.
List the name of artists you cherish most.
Ian Anderson, Randy Newman, Beethoven, Mark Knopfler, Taj Mahal ….
Tell us how you get inspiration.
Knowing that life is short.
Elaborate on the song.
When trying to be helpful to others, you might make things worse. Seeking virtue can be an act of selfishness. Generosity can be counter-productive when given without condition in cases where guidance is needed.
Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the album.
‘People Like Us’ is intended to be an irony. There are very few absolutes about individuals … we adapt as needed to circumstances, including adapting to who is observing us. Like gemstones, people present different facets, dependent on the angle of observation. To group, people are to arrange them, simplify them, as you would in posing a group for a photograph. After the picture is taken, they wander away and become themselves.
