Elaborate on your music career, band name, experience, and skills.
The name of the band is really a reflection of our music. We don’t really conform to a single genre or style.
“Gyan” in Hindi means knowledge, so Random Gyan translates roughly to random knowledge, but in context has a more frivolous connotation, akin to the random pieces of solicited or unsolicited advice everyone loves to give.
So, “Just Some (Random Gyan)”, our debut EP features four very different tracks telling four very different stories, in the spirit of the theme of random, spontaneous experiences, conversations, and ideas.

Tell us your genre and the idea behind your song.
The song details the flurry of thoughts that go through people’s minds while initiating text conversations with someone that they’re attracted to.
To have that ‘perfect’ mix of charm and to not come across as desperate, while dealing with some insecurities about your own shortcomings.

Tell us how to run a record label based on your experience as an artist.
Listening to what artists want and need, rather than focusing on getting music out and gigging relentlessly, we aren’t signed to a label, but friends of ours have mixed experiences.
Having a label that is focused on purpose rather than completing tasks for the artist would be amazing.

Tell us how you are promoting your music.
We are relying solely on our fans. We have had a couple of blogs and radio stations that have aired and reviewed our music.

Share your press release and reviews with us.

Explain the story behind the song.
Anubhav (who wrote this song): I always had a flurry of thoughts after sending text messages to the women I felt attracted to.
During the subsequent wait for their answers, the usual thought came to mind-blowing if I sounded desperate, should I take a little longer to respond or will the moment pass by in case I take too long.
My feeling was that a lot of people would go through similar feelings, irrespective of genders, and could relate to it.
So I wrote the song to confirm the above hypotheses that I had in my head.

Tell us what makes you unique from others.
We’re genre-agnostic. All of us come through with widely varying interests in musical tastes and backgrounds.
The key is that we’re a closely-knit group of friends who can leverage that diversity mutually to create a sum that is greater and more interesting than its parts.

Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining to music.
Weakness would be the distances that we all function under at this point. So coming together to make music is a big challenge.
Strengths would be the aforementioned diversity. Also, a big chunk of the strength comes as each one of us being a piece of a puzzle that everyone completes.
For example, for every loud/vocal personality or detail/complexity-oriented individual in the band, there is a quieter person with a clear, simplistic approach towards things.
Both musically and personally, we’d be prices of a jigsaw completing the puzzle. Complex much, eh?

List your favorite artists.
Benjamin Clementine, Novo Amor, Jon Bellion, and James Blake – (strictly for good production values).
Paolo Nutini and Sharon Van Etten amongst many others.

Tell us your position on “Do It Yourself” and signing to a major label.
Raag has a studio, so it made most of the recording part easy, as he engineered and produced it; much of the DIY was accomplished that way.
Since there are so many freelancing mix engineers and producers up for hire these days (not to mention how affordable audio recording technology is) that anyone can make a good-sounding record now, and there are some great things happening… promoting indie talent and getting discovered.
