Born Kenneth Henderson in LA grew up in Watts / Compton area 1967 at a time of Historic social change and music evolution. Living the street life as a young man I used music to transform my surroundings and express my creativity as a percussionist in local city parks.
Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.
Kenney Z is a music historian with a background, in jazz, funk, R&B, Hip Hop and Gospel. I play percussion’s Conga, drums & bass, a music producer that plays and records his music in real time, Kenney Z also played in a band called Christian back in 1991 when he created this new genre he called Rhythm & Praise Hip Hop. I love studio
production, editing, mixing and mastering Kenney Z is now president of Zion Tech Record$ .
Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.
Kenney Z’s Gospel Funk Rhythm and Praise Style, is a mix off smooth grooves, funky beats, jazzy hip hop and positive lyrics, Street wise, Visually-melodic songs that My listening audience age 12 yrs. to 60 yrs. Funk, Hip Hop R&B, Gospel and Contemporary Jazz fans can relate to. The concept for my music video called Choices comes from a true life statement that ever choice we make or do not make shapes our lives, we can choose life more abundantly or speak negatively. Choice is a song of encouragement, Faith and freedom.
Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.
I consider myself a Hip Hop artist that uses the good news Gospel to reach the youth and show them that wisdom comes from God, and as you my know some people don’t want to hear that, they choose to try to put you down or put you in the Gospel rapper BOX . However there are a lot of people with their eyes and ears open that want to hear the Good News’ and get away from the down state of negative, none creative Hip Hop of today, where good is bad and bad is good. I have work with one of Hip Hop’s founding fathers Rapper Curtis Blow when he started a Gospel Show case in Los Angeles called Hip Hop Church LA, I also Hosted my own Music TV show called Gospel Rhythm & Praise. I learned a lot about the music industry so I started Zion Tech Record$ alongside my distributor CD Baby the business is headed to the top.
Tell us about other members of your band, crew or music video director and how the music video was shot.
I am a solo artist that performs arranges, writes, composes music production, I learned that from the Artist formally known as Prince. LOL… I also collaborate with other Hip Hop artist from California and family members Maya’nicole, Tiffany & Britany Henderson AKA Lady Zion, Amari Nora AKA Princess Amari and my son in law Angel Hernandez on Video production.
Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.
For the last 20 years I have been expanding my music and industry talent that includes five studio albums and many stage shows. My focus at this time is to expand my listening audience worldwide by accessing more radio airplay and internet streaming, blogs, and TV. My next project will be a Hip Hop Jazz Album.
Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.
I have music in my DNA I am inspired by many artist from the past like James Brown, Ramsey Lewis, Teddy Riley, Earth Wind & Fire, DJ Premier, Ice Cube, and many more.
I lost two of my Brothers George and Cory to gang violence, that’s why I want to speak to the youth about leading positive and productive lives. We all can help and do better!

I think the formula for a hit song starts with good music, relatable lyrics, that touch emotions happy or sad, great promotion and extra heavy air play.
