Slim Loris was an idea formed in the heads of singer/bass player Mattias Cederstam and guitarist Robert Barrefelt in 2009.

The duo was soon accompanied by drummer Jonas Ellenberg and singer/guitarist Leon Lindström.

As the leading lights of Scandicana, the Swedish cousin of Americana, Slim Loris have received glowing tributes from the likes of Huffington Post and AXS.

After releasing three albums however the band was forced to take a break due to some personal setbacks.

Regrouping in 2017 Slim Loris changed their musical direction by returning to their early influences, from UK 60’s Beat to 90’s Indie. A goal was set to release a new EP every year.

The restart was marked by “Wild and Untamed”, released on May 2nd, 2018. Produced by Pecka Hammarstedt in Olga Studios and with cover art painted by the acclaimed Swedish artist, Emil Grönholm, with world-renowned jazz/funk saxophonist Per Ruskträsk Johansson makes a guest appearance on the song Hideaway.

Platinum record awarded director Jonas Hong Soo Eriksson, who also directed Slim Loris video “Head on the Floor”, reunited with the band and recorded a video for the song “Hideaway” that was premiered by Clash music.

Music by Slim Loris have been featured in the Swedish films “Var kommer mjölken ifrån” and “Allt vi får från får – en film om får” and also in “Skärgårdsliv – en film om skärgårdsbönder och deras djur” due to be released in spring 2019.

New EP “One Kind of Bull” takes a step back in time with a move back to basics approach – Co-produced by Pecka Hammarstedt and with another cover art masterpiece by Emil Grömholm – it’s due to be released on May 9th, 2019.

State your history.

Two high school friends from Stockholm, Sweden who got together after their previous bands had split to write some songs for the fun of it. Two more members, three albums and one EP later we are about to release new music on May 9th in form of the EP “One Kind of Bull.”

.

.

.

Describe yourself as an artist.

Four very different minds coming together to make sense of a mishmash of ideas and styles.

.

.

.

Tell us the genre of your music.

We are a four-piece classic indie rock band that like to pick up and incorporate influences from all over and add a bit of Swedish melancholy on top.

.

.

.

Tell us the story behind your song.

The chorus came to me one day when I was driving home from work and I liked it but initially wanted to change the lyrics since they felt a bit cheesy but then I took it as a challenge to keep them.

I thought the song had a Beatles vibe to it so I wrote about when we went to Liverpool to play at the Cavern Club a few years back.

.

.

.

Tell us the problems you are facing as a musician.

Time management – So much you want to do with music, family, work and so little time to do it…

.

.

.

Discuss the recording and production of the song.

We recorded the whole song on an old laptop in our rehearsal space apart from the drums that our neighbour Studio VÅG helped us with.

Initial production was ours during recording but then we handed it over to our co-producer mastermind Pecka Hammarstedt to put his magic touch to it and mix it and make it shine.

.

.

.

List the names of blogs, radio or television stations that have supported you so far.

For our latest release some have been:

Rootstime, Werksman.blogspot, The Independent Music Show with Tom Lambert,  Folkal Point, NWCZ Radio, Q108kingstonindie, The Locked and Loaded Radio Show.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music career, experience, and future goals.

It started out as two friends just playing music and writing in a bachelor pad in Stockholm and has naturally progressed from there.

We have always tried to evolve as a band with every new recording and hope to continue doing so.

.

.

.

Brief us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

God, life, family, friends, great music, weird shit, my dog – Anywhere you look there might be a song waiting to happen.

.

.

.

Brief us the top-secret behind making a hit song.

Luck and not giving a f*** about what works and doesn’t and just go with what feels right.

.

.

.

Tell the piece of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

When you stop thinking and just get dragged into the music you got something well worth exploring.

.

.

.

Discuss at length your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have received.

Started out with making an 11 track demo just to see what we sounded like. Some highs and some lows but it helped us find our sound and lead to the first album “Down to Earth” and then we tweaked it a bit more for second release “future echoes and past replays.”

Got tons of press and features for that one, mostly good ones and we went on a tour to the UK and got to work with director and mad genius Jonas Hong Soo Eriksson for the video to the song “Head on the Floor.”

Went from being mainly a duo to a four-piece band and started collaborating with producer Pecka Hammarstedt who’s been like a fifth member ever since.

We released “love and fear”. Then we’re forced to take a long break with our singer having a mental breakdown.

We came back with a new sound and a goal to release a new EP each year.

Last year, “Wild and Untamed” marked the restart and a victory in itself to be back on track again.

We got to work with some cool people – Jonas Hong Soo Eriksson again making the video for “Hideaway” premiered by Clash Magazine and also Sweden’s greatest saxophone player Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson who played a great solo on the same track as well as brilliant artist Emil Grönholm who painted the album cover.

Now we are back with a new EP also with a cover painted by Emil and we are going back to play the UK again in May.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

The best ideas especially for lyrics but also some music come at times like when being out walking the dog or driving home from work or washing up.

When your mind is a bit blank good stuff tends to pop up.

.

.

.

Name your favourite artists for collaboration.

Tom Waits (legend), Al Green (best vocals ever) and Damon Albarn (genius).

.

.

.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

Go mental for a while and then hopefully have enough left to throw at recording a new album.

.

.

.

Discuss music promotion and how you are boosting your fan base.

Tricky one. So much great music out there to compete with.

Trying to reach out as much as possible and hope something sticks.

.

.

.

Tell us how you manage other activities with your music career.

By being an anal-retentive perfectionist bastard.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Slim Loris: Someone happened to mispronounce the name of an animal called Slender Loris and said “Slim Loris” instead and we liked it and used it as a band name.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

Space in your Heart: just the part of the chorus that sounded like a title. No deeper meaning there.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.

One Kind of Bull: the cover is a painting by artist Emil Grönholm. I asked him to incorporate my English Bulldog into the cover and he named the painting “One Kind of Bull” so that’s what we used as a title.

Crystal Tides, the south coast’s new favourite indie/pop band, draw on classic noughties guitar riffs and modern feel-good pop to create an irresistible fusion that captures the very essence of adolescence and never-ending summer.

Harry Knowles, lead guitar, Sam Pennington, drums, Billy Gregory, vocals, and George Regan, bass, came together in a small flat in Brighton where Billy and Harry wrote songs on their breaks from lectures at university.

When lifelong friends Sam and George joined in it felt like they’d all been playing together for years already.

A manic DIY debut tour took them around the UK in a swirling mess of glitter, late nights and exuberance.

They recorded a demo that connected with their fledgling young fan base.

Sellout shows in Portsmouth, London and Hertfordshire followed.

The band was invited to perform at Etihad Stadium for the Champions League semifinal.

Crystal Tides, the band making waves, promise big things for 2019.

Their new single ‘Little Lies’ was released on April 5th, 2019.

Crystal Tides on ‘Little Lies’

‘Little Lies’ tells the story of all the mornings we have woken up not knowing where we are, how we got there and the big one of ‘What the hell happened last night?’

We’ve all been there!

And even though the hangover is killing you, it comes to the next evening and all you want to do is go out and do it all again.

We chose the title ‘Little Lies’ because of two things really…

Firstly, all those little lies you tell yourself when you are hung-over, just to try and make yourself feel better!

You know like ‘I didn’t even drink that much’ or ‘I’m never drinking again!’

And secondly, all the little lies that spread around about what happened on your drunken night out… those things that everybody talks about but nobody truly knows what happened.

Have a listen to our new single! We guarantee you’ll love it!

.

.

.

Tell us your most memorable live performance.

We were lucky enough to play at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the Champions League semifinals in 2018. Doesn’t get much better than that!

.

.

.

Discuss how you build your song.

One of us usually comes up with an idea and brings it to the band – We then sit down and mix all of our own little ideas into it and go from there.

.

.

.

Tell us how you impress your fans with your music.

We try and make it catchy and instantly memorable. We want people to hear our music and have it resonate with them!

.

.

.

Tell us what you will do apart from music.

Hopefully nothing! Music is the end goal and we don’t want to settle for anything less!

.

.

.

Tell us the piece of advice you will give to a new artist on entering the music chart.

Don’t give up. If you enjoy playing music and releasing it and it makes you happy but it doesn’t go the way you want it too, stick with it.

.

.

.

State your future goals.

Aiming for major radio coverage and perhaps a tour around the UK! Watch this space.

.

.

.

Tell us the most difficult part of the recording.

Deciding if what you have already is good enough and having the open mind to change it.

.

.

.

Discuss the greatest mistake you have ever made in your music career.

Too many to mention, but mistakes only make us better.

Deal Casino have been playing music together since middle school. Three out of the four members – Joe P, Joe C, and Jon Rodney, all grew up together in Northern New Jersey.

By the time they found their drummer, Chris Donofrio, they were a complete formed musical unit, ready to come out swinging in the developing Asbury Park indie music scene.

Spending an intense first few years writing and recording, doing residencies all over New York, New Jersey and Philly, the band released their self-titled debut album and 3 EPs.

The last year saw a major shift for the band, as they took on a new direction in their writing, releasing the LLC LP in the fall and heading out on their first full US tour with The Wrecks and Badflower.

2019 promises more new music from Deal Casino, and more touring and an appearance at Governor’s Ball on Randall’s Island on May 31.

More!

Deal Casino is an indie pop band from Asbury Park, NJ.

Joe P and Jon Rodney started out in a cover band in 7th grade, with Joe C joining their freshman year of high school.

During a brief stint in Nicole Atkins’ band, Joe P met drummer Chris Donofrio, and knew they needed to get him in the band.

In 2013, the four of them became Deal Casino.

They spent the next four years living together in the same house in Asbury Park, paying their dues in the local music scene and coming into their own as a band.

They played several shows at local venues and at one point have three different residencies at the same time.

They spent all their free time playing, writing and recording in a local recording studio.

Foregoing sleep and sanity, they recorded three EP’s at the same time-Heck (2014), Nika (2015), and Human Cannonball (2016), all leading to the release of their first, self-titled LP.

In December 2017, they released the Calidus EP, with live and bonus material.

In 2018, they retreated to Fidelitorium Studios in NC to record new songs written by the band.

This resulted in the Isadora Duncan EP and their second LP, entitled LLC, both produced by Erik Kase Romero of The Front Bottoms.

In late 2018, they hit the road opening for The Wrecks on their first U.S. tour.
