Listening to the sound of Gipsy King in his childhood, Thomas Vogt played guitar and then piano, working with his first digital audio workstation on his computer. His first compositions are born from those different universes.
While graduating from international trading, he releases his first singles under the artist name Joàan.
Now driven to pursue a career in the music industry, he studies sound engineering, learns to DJ and plays live for the first time near Paris.
In 2017, Joàan changed his artist’s name to VOG.
Inspired by Kygo, Avicii, and Kungs, he mixes different genres of electronic music, from pop to tropical house, to create his own musical identity.

Go into detail on why you decided to choose music as a career.
Five years ago I questioned myself regarding my goal in life. Younger I studied trading and economy without really knowing what I wanted to do. The truth is I was always intrigued by a lot of things such as sport and other hobbies, but music was always very important for me.
After graduating from economy, I took a sound engineering and music class. I started composing my own material; I made contact in the music business and evolved a lot.
I always wanted to give something out of myself and I found out music was the best way to express myself.

Brief us the feedback you are getting from fans on your music.
To be able to evolve in a modern pop while keeping my roots trying and not to copy others is my main focus.
My first fans are always my family and friends who got my back since day one, they really are the ones who push me forward and provide me the strength to keep sharing my emotions with people around the world.

Discuss the relevance of social networking to music.
It’s essential! Facebook, Instagram, and now even TikTok allow us to share our life on a daily basis with our fans. The important thing is to find a balance and try not to be too much involved in it.

Tell us how you record your song.
I am lucky enough to have my own recording, mixing, and mastering studio. It started with a laptop and two speakers on my desk.
I worked with a singer friend of mine I met during a trip to Laos. I started composing a loop with a top line and it all started from this.

Tell us the story behind the song.
The singer I worked with wanted to share her story she just went through with her ex, they were on a trip for 6 months around the world. I met them in Laos.

State your musical skills.
I try to keep my identity using organic beats and samples that I create in my recording studio, in order to evolve in pop/electro, with a VOG touch.
I’m behind everything, from composition to lyrics and the mood. I try to get out the most of the people I work with…

Tell us how long it takes to complete a song from the start.
There’s no specific timeline. It goes through writing, composing, finding the good chords, a nice melody, and the mix and then mastering! It took me 3 days with singer Gabriella and one of my friends Oliver Charles to produce and finalize a song on Gabriella’s next album. Usually, it takes many weeks to polish a song, it’s a never-ending battle.

Go into detail on how you develop your lyrics and melody.
I work in two different ways.
I either start creating a ‘Yaourt’ with the singer. It means he starts humming a random melody and depending on the mood of the music, we argue about the subject to explore.
The other way is the opposite. I work with a text, create a strong melody, and then adapt the text to make it work with the music.
The goal is to talk about timeless and society matter subject.

Discuss music in full detail.
A soft and melodic mood in the verse leads to a dynamic and catchy pop in the chorus.
The song is embellished with instruments reinvented in their own way; a violin played like a guitar, an electric guitar with toilet paper to muffle the strings, mixed with a large reverb to create a unique mood to it.

State your five favorite genres of music.
It’s all about pop and tropical house.
Pop; it’s one of the most important genres because it gathers people together! There’s nothing more beautiful than a crowd dancing to the same rhythm all along.
Tropical House; Kygo, pioneer of the Tropical House, is one of my biggest inspirations. He followed his own musical vibe creating what he likes to do.

Discuss your rehearsal.
I started Djing at 17 years old, during parties in the neighborhood. It became more serious when I was 20; I started mixing in different clubs in Paris.
My first shows under my artist name happened in 2018 where I played in different cities around France. I hope to soon be able to play in Canada, the USA, and all around the world!

State your favorite musical instruments.
Guitar; I listened to Gypsy Kings during my childhood, and to this day I’m still a fan! I also like various sounds used to create melodies with different moods; Sitar, Ukulele, Violin, and world music instruments.

Describe the chemistry between you and your fans during a live performance.
My goal is to surprise them and bring them on an adventure all night long! I am giving my 200% and really try to be connected with them.

Discuss your personality in full detail.
I think it would need a whole book, there’s a lot in my head! I think it’s what keeps me going and to know I have the chance to wake up every morning doing something I love and make people feel emotions with something I created.

Discuss your music career.
I just finished the first step, the release of my first single with my artist name VOG. It’s the beginning of a long career in the music industry, at least I hope!
I’m putting all my efforts into my career; I’m working 7 days a week, developing little by little a team to help me. Of course, alone I wouldn’t be very far.

List your musical work.
I released 5 singles under the name Joàan. The first experience with hundreds of thousands of streams helped me to start in the music industry world.
I’m working as a producer for almost 2 years; I had the chance to work on songs for artists such as Gabriella, Oliver Charles, Cyril Roussos, Morisse, Maricke, Alexia Maitre, Dorian Ruiz, and more.
I am now releasing my first album under the name VOG with Father & Son Records, which the first single is ‘Run Away.’

Everyday opportunities come to us! My encounter with the singer on ‘Run Away’ is one of them. We met for the first time at the other end of the world in Laos, while knowing we lived only 5km from each other and we had multiple friends in common.

Father & Son Records presents ‘Run Away’ by recording artist, DJ, and Producer VOG from France. The song is the very first of VOG’s career and the beginning of what is going to be a 7-8 songs album. Inspired by the influence of musical geniuses such as Avicii, Kygo, and others, VOG creates his own atmosphere with a blend between catchy pop melodies and electronic rhythm.
Although being the artist’s first single under this alias, he did acquire a lot of experience in the past under the name Joàan, releasing five singles. His most successful one ‘Just Like You’ featuring singer Alexia Maitre gained hundreds of thousands of plays on SoundCloud and Spotify.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.
VOG, it was kind of easy to pick as it’s my last name.

State the title of the song and the meaning.
‘Run Away.’ Nothing is easier than to flee with the one for whom we felt love, without looking back, erasing misdeeds of the past.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.
A Split of A Second. Our existence on earth is only a wing beat on the scale of life on earth. Meanwhile, this means an infinity of opportunities in life, sharing, and emotion. This is what I decided to do, during a split of a second.
